I would say although in my case I did choose physical activities as the best way of coping with a disaster, I tend to concur with you on your position on resilience theory. First of all, given the weight that a disaster can have on the victims, it is so great that this theory can be applied among all age groups as you have stated. Besides, a disaster is universal, in that, it can affect anyone. Therefore, it is great to see that there are mechanisms in existence, which can be applied by any individual to overcome the given hurdles they do face after a disaster irrespective of their age group. Just like you have mentioned, Dr. Seligman did touch on the ore functions discussed in class however, I was impressed by his reiteration of having a positive outlook in our lives to live freely and happily.

I do agree with your assessment of Dr. Seligman’s talk. However, in my case, I did find him focusing more on the positive aspect of one’s life compared to the negatives unlike, in your case, whereby you do find these aspects to be in equal measure. For example, during the talk, he highlights research that was done on people who are always happy, and the research did find that such individuals are always looking for positives in their lives rather than focusing on the negatives they have undergone or experiencing at the moment. On the other hand, I do agree with your conclusion on the role that a conversation can have in relation to getting an insight into how a survivor or victim lives, in the case, of a psychologist. Just to mention, I would like to know which theory or approach for coping with a disaster did stand out for you in the course.

I do think that we as human beings we do go through a lot of trying times and at times, it does take a toll on our mind and bodies. However, I also do applaud Dr. Seligman for stating that normal lives should be normalized and be considered fulfilling. Trials we always be normal in our lives and it is time that we accept this and instead of letting it bring us down, we should accept this reality and consider living a fulfilling life. On the other hand, in course I was also intrigued by resilience theory and I also did find it to be satisfying and almost perfect given the fact that it can be applied across all individuals irrespective of their ages.
