Slavery, ethnic, and racial backgrounds in the US

The topic of slavery needs to be discussed in the United States based on its implications to their past and current societies. Slavery is a significant part of American history as it defines both its social and economic structure. Slavery took place for over 400 years, with millions of African captured and shipped to plantations in American. The trans-Atlantic trade resulted in the economic development of both Europe and American at the expense of the freedom of millions of African Americans (Genovese, 2014). Over the years, the history of slavery to the abolition of slavery and the Jim crow laws have constituted the history of social injustices that are still evident in the current society. Despite the enactment of the civil rights acts, the racial differences that are deeply rooted in slavery are still divisive in the country. There have been cases of discrimination based on race in the United States to date, an aspect that has defined the social structure of the country.

The United States is currently the most cosmopolitan society in the world with people from diverse ethnic and racial backgrounds. From the research, I have learned that the history of slavery still weighs heavily in American societies. The cases of racial injustices that arise from time to time are definitive of a society that does not fully appreciate the disparities in the country and their implications of these differences (Genovese, 2014). Slavery was a dark age for Africans who spent all their lives working for whites in their plantations mines and other areas for economic gain. The research brought out the pain and suffering that has been transmitted down the generations. The Jim row era, for instance, were discriminatory laws that clearly defined the gap between the African Americans and the white population.
