Pet peeves to consider
The pet peeve that I would like to research is people spitting in public places. The examples of areas include footpath and parks. I have witnessed cases of people spitting while walking or standing in an open public area. I tend to consider the behaviour a pet peeve issue.
The concern is interesting because the exploration will provide the opportunity to contextualize the magnitude of the behaviour in the society. Afterward, the findings from the investigation could formulate a solution to the societal problem. The prevailing situation in the society indicates that peoples spit in open places due to exposure from different sorts of smell or irritation. A case in point is a person passing at a place filled with smokes from automobiles. the individual might respond by spitting saliva in an open public space.
The stakeholders who might express interest in the issues are the representatives of the local authorities assigned the mandate of maintaining the cleanliness of parts and public places in different cities across the globe. Example include spit guards. Behavioural scientists and psychologist might also express interest in the concern to understand the motive of the behaviour. The same applies to scholars in different learning institutions undertaking studies on pet peeve topics.
The representative of the authority might classify the behaviours are irresponsible act or malicious tendencies. The view might differ from the position held by behavioural scientists who might claim that spitting is intuitive and psychological responses influenced by environmental factors.
The aspect of life that could affect the view on the behavior is the educational levels. One’s schooling influences the judgement of the individual on certain behaviours categorized as unethical. I might judge spitting as irresponsible.
The age also affects the view on the matters. A young person might not consider the concern serious as the case of an adult. The religious background equally plays a role in the judgement of the behaviour. The same applies to work background. Person accustomed to specific codes of ethics due to works influence or religious background judges the behaviours based on the prism of orientation to the act.
After searching on google scholar on the subject. I found articles expressing a divergent opinion on the subject. The works of Joyce, Peter, and Wendy Laverick. “Spit guards, ethical policing and the need for an evidence-based approach,” addresses the concern from a scholarly perspective. The researchers suggest the need for exploration of evidence-based data in their claim that spitting in public places is a behavioural problem. The scholars propose wats for enforcing rules that prevent the act. If the topic is not approved, I have other pet peeves to consider for the study. The examples include shouting while using mobile phones in public places. The behaviour has become common in society, especially in urban areas. I can also consider hooting while driving or the use of mobile phones while driving as a pet peeve topic.
The research question that I have for the topic is it possible to incorporate all the ideas enlisted in the identity wheel for the discussion on the topic. Subsequently, what re the critical items for incorporation in research to ensure that the discussion on the pet peeve issue fulfill all the requirements for classification of the presentation as scholarly research
