The impacts of water scarcity

Water is an essential asset since it supports arrays of industries across the globe. In addition to that, human life and the ecosystem direly depend on water that takes up 70% of the earth. On that account, water shortage will have detrimental effects as follows.

Health Problems

For starters, hygiene and sanitation will suffer since people need water to drink and wash their hands. Therefore, without water, diseases such as cholera, malaria, and typhoid will affect the population.

Food Shortage

Agriculture depends on water to irrigate farmlands so that the products can have adequate moisture to grow. For that reason, water scarcity means that food production will decline, leaving nations and states with no meals to eat.

Energy Disruption

Some countries or states rely on hydroelectric power as a source of energy. It means that they utilize water to produce electricity that serves them daily. Thus, water scarcity will mean that the energy will get disrupted. There might be power rationing, and some people will not carry out their regular duties.

Declining Economy

Many industries need water to manufacture cars, process food, and design clothing. They contribute a significant amount of revenue to the economy. Hence, if they can’t access water, the economy will slow down and recess if the resource if not restored.

Damaged Ecosystems

Plants and animals will suffer since they need water to grow and survive as well. When seas and oceans experience water scarcity, coral reefs, fishes, whales, and sharks will fade off continuously. Due to the lack of food, some of them will die and remain extinct as well.

Final Thoughts

Consequently, water scarcity has negative impacts on various aspects of life. Human beings, plants, and animals feel the unforgiving effects that lack of water has. Food becomes a problem, the economy declines, biodiversity gets lost, and life-threatening diseases emerge.
