Thought Stance
Halstead
A climate solution where all sides can win.
Significant
There has been excessive polarization regarding the climate change issue. The need for a killer app to control climate change is crucial. The app promises to venture into the market and create its market and also break through all the barriers that hinder climate conservation. There are many barriers to achieving climate change goals. Psychological barriers have been witnessed as citizens don’t get involved in climate conservation when the benefits are supposed to be long term and helpful to other people from different countries. Geopolitical barriers have also been hard-hitting to global climate change policies. Many countries don’t implement the strategies, but instead, they joy ride as others try to control climate change. The partisan barrier has also ensured the climate policy has failed. Despite the countries committing to reducing climate change, they have not been able to reach the threshold or targets set.
Controversial
The plan that the republics have regarding the issue of climate change seems to be very viable. The introduction of the Carbon tax has been seen as a better way of reducing climate change. Halstead claims that the market failures are to blame for the climate change issue as the market transactions are based on incorrect information.
Significant
The introduction of carbon tax seems to be a good way of reducing carbon emissions. When the carbon tax rises, companies will reduce their emissions, and the climate can be saved. The Republicans propose that the tax should be channelled to the citizen’s pocket. The treasury department of the US states that 70% of lower-class American citizens would get more dividends than what they would have paid for an increase in energy prices. The new policy will ensure all the barriers are overcomed as people will be more willing to take part in the climate conservation process.
Reflection
I agree with Halstead on the introduction of a Carbon Tax policy that increases every year. The tax will ensure that the citizens and the climate both win. The elimination of unnecessary regulations in exchange for prices on Carbon. The climate will be conserved better with this new policy as compared to how the trade regulations have done. The more the citizens protect the environment, the more they benefit. This seems like an excellent way to win the people’s support for the policy. The final issue regarding the carbon Tax is the domino effect. The country that implements the policy will generate a lot of revenue from the taxes charged at borders for imports from other countries. This would push citizens of other countries to implement the Carbon tax policy, hence making the climate conservation successful and efficient.
