Study Project 3: U.S Politics
The United States presidential candidates are rated based on their views regarding environmental, immigration, and education views. Joe Biden and Donald Trump are the major competitors in the coming presidential election. Trump is running for the presidency with Republican Party ticket, while Biden is the preferred candidate for the Democratic Party. President Donald Trump is my preferred presidential candidate because his policies have shown promising results in addressing major environmental, immigration, healthcare, and education issues.
The U.S should build a wall along the Southern border to address some immigration challenges. For many years, the Mexico- U.S border has been used to sneak illegal goods and immigrants to the United States. President Donald Trump proposed the construction of a wall at the border (Pierce, Bolter, & Selee, 2018). The wall will prevent illegal immigrants and goods from entering to the U.S through the Mexico- U.S border. Illegal immigrants should not have access to government-subsidized healthcare. First, allowing illegal aliens to enjoy subsidized healthcare will encourage illegal immigration in the United States. President Donald Trump is against the move because the legislation will bankrupt the United States.
Climate change is a significant challenge facing the world. The United States has made considerable efforts to address the problem of global warming. However, the government should not increase environmental regulations to prevent climate change. Currently, there are sufficient regulations put in place to address the problem. Most of the Republicans agree that increasing the rules would be a waste of time and resources. Instead, the government should focus on strengthening the existing regulations to solve the problem of climate change. The United States should withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement. President Donald Trump announced the withdrawal in 2017 (Rhodes, 2017). The agreement had unfairly imposed strict restrictions on U.S companies. The move to withdraw from the Paris climate agreement has boosted the industrialization sector by granting U.S companies independence.
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act promised quality and affordable healthcare services to all Americans. However, many Americans still cannot afford quality healthcare because they cannot afford Obamacare coverage. As a result, I do not support Obamacare. People should work to receive Medicaid. Medicaid covers the medical costs for low-income citizens seeking medical services. President Donald Trump instructed the states to encourage able people to work to become eligible for Medicaid (Solomon, 2019). Non-disabled people should work before accessing Medicaid. This will force many people to embark on job search, education, and job training, which will eliminate laziness in the U.S.
Taxes for the rich should be increased to reduce interest rates for student loans. Most of the students are low-income borrowers. Reducing their interest rates will relieve them of the burden of paying for high-interest rates. This will encourage more students to continue their studies. The move will increase the number of educated people and professionals in the United States, which will positively impact the U.S economy in the long run.
In the past years, Trump’s administration has implemented effective policies to address critical environmental, immigration, education, and healthcare issues. The construction of a wall in the Southern border will prevent illegal drugs and immigrants from entering U.S. The withdrawal from the Paris Climate agreement will give the U.S companies enough freedom to implement sustainable and environmentally friendly production methods. People should work before accessing Medicaid coverage to eradicate laziness and poverty in the U.S.
