Introduction

The existence of power more significant than another is cultural imperialism. It could be among the organization’s countries, among other differences. The presence of variety causes cultural diversity; this is the presence of various cultures, genders, ethnic groups, races, among others. Gender is a variety of forms but mostly male and female. Over the years, men are perceived as superior species; this led to the rise of the Human woman rights. The woman rights aim at promoting equality among all people, for example, the 19th amendment of the united stated constitution in 1920, which gave women a right to vote. This paper expounds on women’s rights to cultural imperialism.

Gender-Based Violence

gender-based violence is violence against particular sex or Gender. In some incidences, men also fall victim to such unfortunate circumstances; this is though being sodomized, domestic violence, among others. These cases are, however, not very common, either due to failure in reporting out of fear of stigma or the incidences, which are really few.

Violence against Women. According to Gurrola and Messing (24), through combined inductive analysis of in-depth semi-structured interviews, they examined immigrant Mexican mothers’ descriptions of oppression in the United States. All five forms of abuse, described in the young oppression framework, are evident exploitation, violence, marginalization, cultural imperialism, and powerlessness. Discrimination places a high burden on Latinas due to the intersection of forms of oppression and none dominant identities.

Female Genital Mutilation. FGM Is a rite of passage from childhood to adulthood or instead of womanhood. It is a cultural practice mostly done in African Countries such as; Nigeria, Niger, Kenya, Uganda, Somalia, among others. There are four types of female circumcision: Type 1 involves complete removal of the clitoris, Type 2 goes beyond Type 1 and removes the labia minora as well, Type 3 stitches the vagina after Type 2 procedure, and Type 4 is any mutation of the vaginal tissue. This entire process is excruciating. The instruments used are not proper surgical instruments and may cause the spread of diseases such as HIV and AIDs. Circumcision is said to purify the woman.

Rape. Women across the globe suffer physically and emotionally after going through a traumatizing ordeal, such as being raped. Little is, however, done to help the victims. For example, in Benin, the penalty against rape was initially five years in prison. Still, due to the corruption and ineffective police work, it is reduced to 3 years or can further be reduced to a misdemeanor, which has led to fear of stigma. In other nations, women are blamed for being raped, all in the name of their dressing is suggestive hence consensual.

Domestic violence. Adjah and Agbemafle(16) argue that The prevalence of domestic violence remains unacceptably high, with numerous consequences ranging from psychological to maternal and neonatal mortality and morbidity outcomes in pregnant women. The risk of ever experiencing domestic violence was 48% less likely for women whose husbands had higher than secondary education as compared to women whose husbands never had any formal training.

Religion

Religion is an essential part of the culture, and just like many other things, it is mostly dominated by men. According to Bayas and Tohidi (2016), at the fourth United Nations Congress on Women in Beijing in 1995, Muslim and Catholic delegations from diverse countries united in opposing provisions on sexuality, reproductive rights, women’s health, and women’s rights as a human being. Women are not allowed to hold similar positions of leadership as men, for example, the status of a priest, Bishop in the Catholic Church. In Muslim culture, women during their monthly periods are considered impure and cannot even pray. A natural and biological process that cannot be avoided, but women are branded dirty for it. Some churches, though, have attempted to accept equality as we now start to see female referents and bishops.

Education

In Africa, many women are denied the opportunity to education, which is considered as the solution to poverty. Witnessed over the years wherein 2000, 23 million girls were out of school. This is up 20 million seen in the previous decade. Girls miss school due to various reasons such as early marriages, lack of sanitary towels, among others. Many girls, especially in African backgrounds, are denied access to education as their place is believed to be in the home, taking care of the husband and the children. United Nations, Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization reports that the enrolment of girls is proportional to the increase in female teachers.

Conclusion

Over time, women have worked hard and tirelessly to attain equality for themselves to be equal to men, not superior. These acts may have been misinterpreted as women wanting more control and power, which is not the case. This struggle has led to the formation of foundations such as Asante Africa Foundation, among others. The creation of awareness has been a critical factor that led to the compositions of various slogans such as #PressforProgress, among others. Promoting human women rights aids in promoting equality in diversity.
