ORGANIZATIONAL LEADERS LACK OF DIVERSITY AWARENESS AND ITS EFFECT ON PRODUCTIVITY
Research Methodology
This chapter indicates the objectives of the study undertaken, the methods by which the research will be carried out, and why the selected methodology is considered appropriate for this research. The section further details the identified population for the study, and again why the sample populations were selected. Also discussed in the research methodology section are a questionnaire and the use of a phone call.
The secondary research will be examined in the literature review through the internet, books, desk research, newspaper articles, and business journals. The objective literature review is to find the origin of diversity and its effect on productivity in the workplace as well as the diversity management concept. Thus, it will be right to research through the use of all the above. The primary research will adopt qualitative (interviews) and quantitative (based on a questionnaire). The qualitative study will consist of semi-structured interviews whereby interview questions will be worked out before the interview with the flexibility of being modified freely during the interview if considered necessary.
While the use of questionnaires leads to data being analyzed and collated to provide a generalized overview of diversity statistics, phone interviews will be employed to provide a comprehensive overview of organizational leaders’ lack of diversity awareness and its effect on productivity. This will require an in-depth interpretation and analysis of data gathered and an extensive overview of issues of concern and opinions about the management of diversity. Itself, the questionnaire will be designed to establish a conceptualized view of diversity initiative in the Dental laboratory in California Trident Dental Labs.
Research Population
For this study, it will be deemed appropriate to use the population from the Dental Laboratory in California Trident Dental Labs. Employees from across the entire department will be interviewed.
Research Design and Analysis
There will be a mixed methods explanatory sequential research incorporating both qualitative and quantitative data collection. According to Creswell (2014), mixed-methods studies provide benefit over a single- method technique since they use the integration of qualitative and quantitative research and data gathering. This deters the investigator from being limited to one method and affords the scholar with numerous ways to collect data. The data will be analyzed, utilizing themes and coding. The qualitative study may be conducted using a survey design in which the survey will be administered through phone calls. The survey design researches help offer a numeric and quantitative description of opinions, trends and attitude of the population by assessing the sample of the population. The data will be shared with all respondents in the form of a pie chart.
Instrument
Two principal instruments will be used to collect data for this research. The first instrument will be inclusion and Diversity Perceptions Survey, modified by the scholar based on the existing study, which initially formulated by Zemba in 2011. An email will then be sent scholar (Zemba) by the researcher to get permission to utilize her survey with the right modifications. The reliability and validity of the instrument will be established by having an expert in the diversity field, reviewing the study evaluate content validity (general structure and questions clarity). Reliability and validity will also be established by conducting a pilot study in one of the departments in the organization.
