Impacts Chinese migrants have on southeast Asia econ development

In the 16th century Chinese had already started migrating to various parts of Asia and by the

19th century they had managed to emerge as paramount players among Asian and European.By

tradition there were trading links between China and southeast Asia.Aside from the urban merch-

ant settlement, colonies from the people of china began to move into and populate the more

interior parts of Asia. They  were engaged in either mining of gold and copper  or  the cultivation

of commercial crops like rice, sugar and pepper.

The Chinese immigrants started plantations of various crops and helping native rulers

To reclaim virgin lands. At this moment of time china was looking towards the  south sea

for minerals such gold tin and copper as well as bulk goods like rice and sugar. The migration led

to the development of newly established cities such as manila and butaria which accommodated

the increasing population and sustain the rapid commercialization of agriculture, which in turn

led to exportation of surplus foodstuffs.

The immigrants also boosted labour force  which was cheap as compared to labour which

was mainly imported slaves through raids and wars as in man power was a scarce commodity

in southeast Asia. The Chinese being foreign traders and farmers, they were exposed to high taxes

and disadvantageous pricing system which triggered economic development.
