SOCIAL MODEL OF HEALTH
Health is crucial and one needs to take care of their personal health. The key to having a healthy life is through a healthy life. It is determined through the precaution that one has to take based on the cause of the health risk. The social model is one that was developed in the late 70s and 80s which is a framework for a better life. The framework looks at the perspective of health from the social aspects which include economic, political, environmental, and cultural aspects (Damari & Ehsani Chimeh, 2017). In the model, the framework is such that it eliminates diseases being caused by biological factors alone but rather from the social aspects. The basis for the model is that individuals affected with the different diseases in the area have a different lifestyle. In addition to that, the lifestyle is not the only factor that will affect people. The model has a framework that it uses in making the environment a better place.
The principle for the model is made through the following acronym AREAS that helps in making sure its accomplishment (Kinn, 2016). Addressing broader determinants of health is one key issue in the way the model works. The areas that are addressed include age, gender, and environmental factors within the health sector. The factors are used to determine the various factors within the health sectors. The determinants are used for making various decisions within the sector. Reducing social inequalities the model creates equality in all sectors of health with the social environment. The areas that are addressed include gender, age, and social-economic status. Empower individuals on different knowledge and skills that will help them achieve health goals. The models address the issue by letting people know how best to take care of themselves. Access to health care the model helps individuals to have access to healthcare. It is achieved by taking care of the barriers of healthcare which include language barrier, educational level, and geographical barriers. Intersectoral collaboration the model allows for collaboration with other sectors. The collaboration involves engaging all the stakeholders in the health sector. It allows it to make it easy for an individual to access medical facilities and be able to get the right help. The principle is as below:
- A-Address the broader determinant of health.
- R- Reduce social inequalities.
- E- Empower individuals and communities.
- A-Access to healthcare.
- I-Inter-sectorial collaboration.
