FUTURE ASPIRATIONS
\It is essential to set goals in your profession. Aspiring to things in your career is also very significant. Career aspirations and goals act as a motivational factor to humans. Career aspirations assist in the description of what you anticipate from your job. The lane that a student wants their career to track is known as a career aspiration. For instance, many people aspire to become part of the management team. Being a member of the management crew is a significant achievement because it guarantees you more responsibility and higher authority.
I recently acquired my Master’s degree in computer science, so I had the habit of heckling that I want to labour in an Information Technology industry. It had not dawned to me that I had to select a specific position and be visionary for my profession in that firm since there are several functions in an Information Technology industry.
I conducted research and realized little things around planning for your career inspirations. The career aspirations of a person are part and parcel of what hints self-actualization. Self-actualization is top on the Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. It is the ability to realize and fulfil one’s knowledge, potential and talent. For instance, one individual may desire to become a teacher. Some individuals express their desires academically or economically.
From Maslow’s theory, we can conclude that the hierarchy of needs motivates human beings.
Some career goals are agitated by the urge for money, while others are agitated by passion. One can hope to be a consultant, computer scientist or a manager and share the expertise. If an individual enjoys overwhelming new encounters and acquiring knowledge, they can swap to an original career path and begin their registered firm or company.
Having a career goes hand in hand with having an inspiration. Provided that you possess a job, you must have long term goals for your career. If you own a firm, a perfect aspiration will be to expand the firm, generate maintainable products and wish for a definite departure. Expectations provide you with the stimulation that enables you to accomplish your goals. Goals are somehow the same as aspirations. Goals take a short time to be accomplished. Desires can be described as long-term goals.
During the process of interviews, interviewers ask questions that look simple even though they possess a hidden meaning. It is significant that you recognize the perception so that you can handle the issues. The query-‘what are your aspirations?’ is a pervasive question in interviews. The same question can be asked in a different way like ‘where do you see yourself a few years from now’. With such issues, the interviewer is weighing your mindset to explain if you have realistic goals and determinations. The item can as well be used to determine if you can maintain that position for a more extended period.
Using the SMART method, which is an acronym, is an operational way of setting career goals. Every letter stands for one part of the targets even there are many optional meanings for each letter.
- Aspiration must be particular as it has several chances of achievement. A reasonable expectation should solve the query of ‘where, when, why, who and what’. An example of a specific desire is ‘work hard and receive a promotion in my company
- The goal you set must be able to be evaluated for realization on whether it is on the right track and its completion date specified. - Computer scientist aspirations should neither be very easy nor impossible. It should be an achievable goal. Once you realize the target can be achieved, you start to focus on it, thus accumulating confidence required for accomplishing and succeeding the aspiration. The aspiration above of getting 8,000 salary increment can be attained- a goal of getting a gross salary raise of 80,000 dollars most likely won’t be attainable.
- For an aspiration to be effective, it must be connected to the career. If it doesn’t satisfy you, then it is irrelevant.
- The set aspirations need to possess a time frame applied to it. Target date and the deadline for the achievement must be available. An inspiration without a spell is just a dream or a vision as ideas lack a set date. Whenever you set dates always include a time frame in it. For instance, it can be within six years. An aspiration is timely as long as there is a date that encounters the attainable principles
Computer science falls under the Information science department. Computer science is a broader field that derived its basics from diverse disciplines, thus requiring students to make proper use of ideas from various fields. The computer science department promotes several programs for undergraduates. The programs include general science courses and offering masters programs. Aspirations require an individual to think of the destination of their career. Long term is anything for more than five years. Expectations include learning new skills, gain experience in management, improve communication and leadership skills, get a new job, improve rates of efficiency and development of a career plan.
Information technology has undergone a massive change and transformation. It is still changing most of the times. Irrespective of the area of specialization, there are very many new ideas a computer scientists can learn to add to the collection of techniques he possesses. Computer science skills include creativity, critical thinking, resilience, problem-solving and analytical skills. Education on information security could result in an exciting profession in forthcoming. It is sporadic to find a computer scientist that possesses all the skills in computer science. As a computer scientist, I look forward to gaining and acquiring knowledge from colleagues
Human beings are not perfect. Just like humans, computer scientists have their strengths and weaknesses. One computer scientist can be at analytical skills but poor and weak when it comes to resilience. In my case am good at problem-solving skills, analytical skills and creativity but somehow soft in critical thinking and resilience. Since learning is a continuous process, we get to learn daily from the surrounding and the internet. I, therefore, aspire to acquire a lot of knowledge as a computer scientist in the next decade. Acquisition of new information and knowledge can be facilitated through proper interaction with workmates.
Growth can be used to determine social success in a working environment. Earning a promotion is my future aspiration as a computer analyst. A promotion would guarantee and advance my career as a computer scientist. Nobody wants to remain static in their workplace. Finding the means and ways of moving forward is significant. We, therefore, try to find means in which we can move up the ladder. Earning a promotion requires hard work and a little luck. How and when to ask for development is also important
Before requesting for promotion, make sure you have analyzed your performance and development. When communicating convince your boss and proof that you are prepared, ready and have the capability of doing several responsibilities after proving yourself and knowing your value in the market plan for a discussion meeting with your boss on matters involving promotion.
The first procedure in requesting for a promotion is the analysis of oneself and knowing your value. The right time to ask for development is during the performance review. The manager gives out accolades and bonuses to improved employees during the performance review. Building a case for one self-founded on the analysis of performance and developing roles in the organization can intensify the probability of getting a promotion.
Aiming for management is my other aspiration as a computer scientist. Promotion can’t be the only thing I am observing for the forthcoming of my profession. I am looking to becoming either a manager, supervisor or director. Management is the process of planning, making decisions, motivation and leading to achieve goals. As a computer scientist, I aspire to participate in making company decisions and planning to achieve the purposes of the company. To facilitate and accomplish the aspiration, I would do good work, build a good relationship with workmates and accepting additional roles.
As a computer scientist, I aspire to start my business firm or industry. Computers have transformed the lives of people. Computers also have a significant influence on the operation of businesses. A computer science degree can be an excellent tool for businesses if you have an entrepreneurial mind. A computer scientist can start businesses like software and web development, IT support, Internet marketplace and marketing.
Web development is a flourishing industry as every person wants to avail themselves online web development firm plays the role of uploading, creating and maintaining client’s websites. Everything from the operating system is included in the software. Therefore there are many chances for a successful software development company. Computer science can be a giant skill for marketing as entrepreneurship. Several marketing tactics depend on online stage and electronic means.

It is the goal of every worker to obtain positive results in a company or an organization. Record keeping impacts the worth of business (Jock, 2018). Lack of proper record keeping can ail the market. You may find yourself bankrupt. When companies find out the only means is to go into debt by looking for financial aid in the form of loans and grants.
For instance, imagine spending money on the purchase of software equipment in a company. Keeping the track records of the cash pays off in future. When you have useful information about your investment and return, you will be able to do a better audit and job in future (Algrim, 2020). Lack of proper cash flow management is a reason why businesses fail.
As a computer scientist, I aspire to be a proficient programmer. Being skilled in programming means having the ability to apply knowledge of programming in the real world. The language of programming is like a mother tongue. If you are comfortable with a programming language, then expressing yourself in it is very easy. Just like any language, becoming fluent in programming takes time. A person has to learn all the corners of that language. Being fluent in German does not necessarily mean you can use the communication skills to a new language; let’s say English.
There are several people who assume that once you are an expert in programming, you have the capability of applying the skills in semantics to any programming language (Rowe, 2017). With my programming language, I disagree with that assumption. A proficient Java programmer may not necessarily be an expert in Ruby programming. It has got nothing related to technical experience.
Problem-solving and programming are two different things in computer science. Problem-solving offers a broader space for solving challenges. Programming is the translation of the skills in solving problems into the actual code that accomplishes the objectives set.
I received my first professional training in programming some few years back. I am still working on that. My set aspiration of becoming a proficient programmer is a motivational factor. The ambition motivates and urges me to work hard to achieve my long term goal of being a skilled programmer.
I also aspire to demonstrate an understanding of the interplay between theory and practice. My first day in university, I was never influenced by theory and practice. I felt empty. But with time, I became thankful as I acquired new concepts. Dr Albert Einstein mentioned, ‘ In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice they are not.’ In theory, many conventions are made to clarify the singularity and notions, while real-life lacks assumptions and the circumstances are always exceptional. Lecturers taught me how the approach might work and how it might not work.
Theories in computer science provide concepts and formalism to help reason about those models and concepts. Computing theories address what is and what is not computable. It creates algorithms to be used in the academic processes. Efficient algorithms and software are the base of modern technology and future technology.
Aspirations are achievements you would like to accomplish in future. Becoming a mentor is my future aspiration as a computer scientist. There are several ways of becoming a mentor. You can become a mentor through the establishment of what you are looking for. Having clear goals increases the probability of a better experience. A computer scientist can pass the exposure to the juniors.
The future looks bright and is a guarantee of experience the moment you land a job in an Information Technology company. I will use the knowledge of mentoring to develop my career. Mentoring provides chances for professional growth and career development. Jenny Taylor states, ‘several employees treasure workmates who can exhibit activities outdoor their usual job explanation and will aggressively search for this during recruitment (Amar, 2016). Mentoring is an excessive chance to display to bosses that you are a devoted individual who is ready to help others by all means.
Every computer scientist aspires to win awards in future. Scholarships are used for employee recognition. Employee recognition is essential as it appreciates productivity level, increases customer fulfilment and makes higher returns. Employees who perform well within an organization are rewarded. The awards can be in the form of money, gifts or promotion. Recognition of employees creates competency among the employees of the company. The workers will compete and do diligent work to be recognized. In other terms, recognition through awards motivates the employee.
As a computer scientist, recognition by my boss would be a significant achievement. Winning awards at my place of work will be a considerable achievement. Therefore award-winning is my future aspiration as a computer scientist.
Even as we talk about future aspiration, it is also good to talk about its merits and disadvantages. Siting long term goals allow an individual to expect roadblocks. Its gives you a picture of how your future will look like. Minus setting future aspirations, a person will be less prepared for setbacks.
Many careers tend to be very discouraging at the beginning of the course work. Careers are discouraging because the learner is not prepared for the future. With time and after adapting the learner derives a long term plan and therefore works for it. Future aspirations act as a motivational factor. The learner, therefore, strives to achieve the objectives. For instance, the learner vestiges zealous and inspires himself. When a goal is achieved, human beings feel proud about themselves and experience fantastic gratification.
