Negative effects of terrorism
Terrorism is the use of violence against property or a person for specific gains. It could be political or religious. The act of terrorism causes direct fear to the victim involved that leads to gradual growth and mental health problem that leads to torture. Terrorism causes psychological effects within the victim leading to trauma. A victim is at times overwhelmed by the attack according to the age and gender. Interpretation and response to the experience is also a determinant in the healing process. There is also the impact of brain and behavior due to the harm suffered .There could be physical consequences which could be injuries causing disability, broken bones and soft tissues that could be long term where some may not get back to their whole being. Victims specifically women could experience attack on women’s rights if there’s abuse such as rape or sexual violence that can lead to contraction of sexually transmitted diseases. It can also cause mistrust in individuals whom they perceive as terrorists due to the ordeal. Survivors of terrorism acts such as hijacking and hostage experience fear, shock, anxiety shame, guilt, anger and resentment and the victim may be tempted to seek vengeance. Terrorism causes loss of lives which is irreplaceable. From an economic point of view, terrorism causes destruction where production of goods and services is affected largely. It also causes uncertainty in the investment opportunities drugging development. Economic terrorist events will lead to income decrease leading to poverty globally affecting international trade between nations. Internationally it could be applied to globalization brought by dissatisfaction of the terrorists. Industries and sectors are affected whereas tourism,travel and entertainment events are put to a standstill creating uncertainty to the sectors. Following that, the sectors experience a reduced demand. Air travel is also affected due to the risks involved in it where people are put off from traveling for an unknown time. Firm’s record low supply curves especially if security represents an important part of the cost. Within financial markets a fall in prices is noted causing liquidity. Demand and supply falls. Local economy may be affected where terrorist incidents occur needing reconstruction which could delay due to lack of resources. Employment is largely affected as terrorism causes shut down of sectors and firms leading to poverty. It causes loss of wealth leading to tough closure decisions on investment. It leads to closure of business increasing poverty and encouraging crime at a high rate within the society. The victim could not be able to settle pending loans if were involved in the investment. It also has an impact on the environment where after the terrorist attack people living in the surrounding would fear to live and opt to relocate. Terrorism denies access to justice as it can be a challenge where the victim would lack clear evidence to showcase and even resources to raise claims in order to be compensated. This leads to devastation on the victim’s side that slows the mental healing process which causes depression. Victims would perhaps go under counseling but still live in torture.
