Poverty
People who lack a certain amount of acceptable money or material possessions are regarded as poor in society. They are also linked to the lowest social class in society. A class of people who cannot meet their basic needs because they have no means to (Schneider, 2016). Poverty is related to several factors such as age, gender, race, and schooling.
To begin with, age in poverty is so crucial. It is stated that the older you get the more risk of becoming poor. This is basically because as people age, they tend to reduce the working hours or even stop working because of health issues. Gender on the other hand is so related to poverty. Gender violence to be precise is a major cause of poverty (Haugen, 2015). Women are more susceptible to gender-based violence such as rape and physical violence. They cannot work safely to earn a living due to this violence and this contributes to poverty. Racial inequalities lead to poverty too. In the United States, one of every three African American children lives in poverty which is two times higher than the rate for white children. Schooling on the other hand is really important. Education is a great equalizer, one gets the skills to just not survive but thrive and failure to be educated then, the probability of being poor is so high (Biddle, 2014). Discrimination often causes poverty. A certain group of people is unable to access basic life needs and in the end, thrive in poverty.
Age is unrelated to poverty from the concept of the young being energetic and can work to earn. It is also, not always that the educated are well off. One could be educated but due to other factors such as gender-based violence and discrimination, become susceptible to poverty.
