Modified syllabus for the course of the PG Diploma
Dear Madam,
I have attached the modified syllabus for the course of the PG Diploma in Advanced Analytical Technique. This course is for two semesters and 36 credits. The program designed so that the first semester which is of 16 credits 14 Theory and 2 Practical, will be organized at IAR. The first semester is mostly theory-oriented and involves the courses of spectroscopic technique, modern separation technique, impurity profiling, and quality control. The second semester, which will be functional at the PERD center, includes advanced analytical technique lab, and dissertation. Both the courses are of 10 credits each.
There is an equal division of credits and courses offered at IAR and PERD, 50 % sharing in the fee expected.
I have a few queries that I would like to bring to your notice regarding the course:
- The dissertation, which is of 10 credits, includes lab work, thesis, and project presentation. We need more elaboration on the topics of the essay that are going to conduct at PERD. These topics will be of great help while defending the PG Diploma course in the Board of Studies (BoS) meeting.
- The experiments conducted in the Advanced analytical technique lab course need to be mentioned clearly, along with the course organization. For example, the name of the organic molecule or drug that will be elucidated by IR spectroscopy, the method of preparation of the sample, the software used in the technique.
The precise work plan will be of great help in defending this PG Diploma course in the Board of Studies (BoS) meeting and also in justifying the credit distribution.
The format we follow to mention the list of the experiment given below:
- Study the hydrolysis of methyl acetate in the presence of two different HCl concentrations and report the relative strength.
- Study the hydrolysis of methyl acetate in the presence of HCl at different temperatures and report the activation energy.
- How many students expected to join this course?
- What would be the fee structure per semester for this course?
Kindly let us know your views regarding the course and all the points mentioned above. After the syllabus is ready by including all the contributions expected from PERD, we will conduct a BoS meeting and subsequently report it to the Academic Council. We are planning to float the course by the first week of September.
