Hardware
This is the hardware aspect of the Computer or device that one is using for virtual learning. Hardware includes the device with suitable specs such as the speed of the processor, the RAM, Storage, the operating system of the device, and the available compatible browser to use. This is the A must use equipment to ensure that virtual learning is a success, a Computer that is running in a stable internet connection. It’s this equipment which runs the necessary software which allows the learning to take place. The device can either be a laptop, mobile phone, or a computer as long as it meets the required of the hardware within the software platform chosen. In the future, I will ensure that I get a laptop that has good specs to allow virtual learning to take place. I will use the Computer to join and host virtual learning sessions.
Audio
This refers to the audio connections which are used for the verbal portion during the virtual learning sessions. The audio connections allow verbal communications among the users in the virtual session—there two types of audio connections, which include VoIP and conference calls. In the future, I would consider using the VoIP connections for virtual learning. This is because I find it cheap since it does not require additional costs in the audio connections. However, it advises using either headsets or earphones while attending the virtual; classes for purposes of paying full attention. It’s always essential to test the audio prior the virtual learning to ensure it works perfectly.
Software
The essential software to use here’s the specific one recommended by your institution for the virtual training sessions. They are popularly known as virtual platforms. For example, google meet. For this aspect, it important that one familiarizes with a specific platform, gets to know their functionality and different features. In the future, I would google meet to monitor and follow up training sessions. This is because it allows visibility and feature where one could chat with the host as they are listening.
Internet Bandwidth
Without a stable internet connection, the hardware, software, and audio, the virtual classes would not be successful that why it’s placed in the technological aspects. The internet bandwidth for both ends should be enough to support the training sessions taking place. One should ensure they check the internet connection before the classes to ensure there no disruptions due to poor connectivity.
Describe the steps you would use to partner with IT to select appropriate technology along with selecting a technology vendor.
It’s essential to begin by setting the objective regarding the selection of the technology to use. At this point, ask yourself how friendly with these technologies you and the students are. Create the goals that you expect from the tool you will select; this helps you know what you are looking for in the market. Secondly, it’s important to survey and study what the current trends in technology are, what the students are comfortable using. Also, consider the tools that the organization approves of before making any decisions after considering these two approaches different vendors to know where you will purchase the tools required. Always consider the following before choosing a vendor: Their experience and expertise, sample their previous projects to evaluate their capabilities. Their scalability also matter; are they willing to do what it takes to meet your requirements even in cases where they are overtime. Consider their pricing, other clients’ testimonials, and their quality practices.
Choose a vendor product (meeting or training) and create your checklist criteria grid/platform according to your training.
