“Siempre hay una manera de decir algo en otros idiomas”, which loosely translate to everyone, can express themselves in multiple foreign languages. A study shows that an endless list exists of languages spoken in America, which includes French, Chinese, and Spanish (Christine and Marie De Mejía 27). The upsurge of foreign languages has been attributed to the constant movement of foreign nationals from a vast number of countries. As cultures continue to throng America, multilingual skills become cardinal to everyone who wants to attain social status in terms of interactions and employment (Christine and Marie De Mejía 29). This talk will ostensibly create the urge to adopt the teaching of foreign languages in schools. I will bring research-based information on national language distribution and focus on the relevance of possessing within ones’ chimera to speak any of the foreign languages. I will include the personal experience to substantiate why learning second languages is important and provide methods that can be used to teach foreign, which include audio-lingual apps, communicative, total physical response, and task-based teaching approaches.
Studies have reiterated this information confirming that knowledge in foreign languages is indeed important at a job, learning institutions, and daily interactions. Hyon and Kominski state that the 2007 U.S Census Bureau indicated 65.3% of Americans speaking multilingual languages and Spanish as the second language (4). Hyon and Kominski (7) argue that learning a second language has multiple benefits including the ability to speak with friends in foreign languages, enhancing personal intellectual growth. Research has shown that children who have developed multilingual skills possess improved cognitive levels than monolingual counterparts (Fogwe 15). Moreover, look at yourself working for an international firm that posts you to work in Spain notwithstanding incapability to speak in that foreign language.
