Close reading is a thoughtful and critical analysis of most of the texts that usually focuses on the critical details or patterns to help in the development of a deep, precise understanding of the text’s form, craft, and meanings. As a teacher, I noticed that implementing the Common Core State Standards is one of the most critical requirements required in the reexamination of instruction. These ideas found within texts are usually presented in texts to help better understanding what was involved in teaching your students to read a text carefully. It is also used in supporting and accommodating features of instructional within the covered texts.
As realized already, a close reading of text usually allows students to be fully involved in analyzing text-based information in a word, phrase, or at a paragraph level. While indulging in this process, they usually make decisions on how this information fits together. They are expected to focus on the central themes, ideas, validity of arguments, and why the author chose that specific genre to present it.
Close reading provides the teacher with the opportunity to teach his or her students to analyze complex texts. Teachers are required to question their students to determine the crucial ides within the texts and the facts supporting their ideas. These questions usually assist the learners in noting the similarities and differences across the texts, synthesizing information, evaluating the integrity of an author’s claim, and grasping the power of language.
