Data and compound visualization
Visualization is a technique that uses images, charts, or cartoons (animation) to send across information, and to ensure communication with its recipients. Visualization has been classified into various categories, which may include data visualization and compound visualization.
Data visualization is whereby tools like maps, charts and graphs, are used to represent data, which provide useful information. Tools used clearly indicate the relationship between the data and the images provided. An example of data visualization is the line chart. I choose the line chart because it is able to show changes of an occurrence over a certain period of time, as well as provide the user with enough data from different groups, for comparison purposes.
Compound visualization on the other hand, uses different formats of graphical representation, on one single frame. It is a more complex way of communication, and may include diagrammatic and metaphoric elements in its content. Compound visualization may include cartoons, learning maps and very rich pictures. Personally I choose cartoons as they are able to tell a story more efficiently, and it is easier to understand a cartoon picture, thank a textual presentation.
My overall choice of the line chart and cartoon mode of visualization is mainly because of the ability to show relationship between various things and groups, as well as enabling communication faster.
In conclusion, the advantages of line chart in data visualization and cartoon is compound presentation over other modes of presentation, is because they use less pieces of data, making it very easy to use. Too many pieces of data may make a visual appear too overcrowded, and in return may become very difficult or take much time to read it.
