Women in the Workplace

Statement of the problem

Has the increased gender equality advocated for in the labor market and other sectors in the global world changed the inequalities witnessed in the labor markets by the women?. Gender inequality is the most discrimination seen in the labor market. Still, it is rarely spoken off out rightly or given the adequate attention it requires due to the notice is given to racial discrimination downplaying the importance of achieving gender equality. According to Catalyst, the number of women participating in the labor force is significantly reducing with fewer women taking the leadership roles in the workforce. Women are considerably being discriminated when it comes to the composition of the average times taken by the different genders without pay—considering this factor where women all over the various continents take more time without pay compared to their counterparts males. And also get less involved in the composition of the labor force contrary to the feminists’ views and even the various governments and agencies contributions in recognizing the need to legislate the gender equality rules and regulations in the workforce and other sectors. To confirm the decrease of the women involved and prove the involvement of the women in the workforce I will utilize the research conducted in partnership with Leanln.Org entailing the survey of more than a quarter-million people in different 600 companies on their positions on women in the workforce in 2019.

The literature on the subject and Hypothesis

Gender equality is the initial step in encouraging and promoting all gender representation with equal rights and opportunities in the workforce. The study, therefore, seeks to prove the Hypothesis of gender inequality in the labor markets with few women occupying jobs of significance positions and also having discriminations. According to the analysis of (“Statistical Overview Of Women “), women and men disparities in the labor market are widening despite efforts to ensure gender equality in all institutions and society. Most of the policies in the community and the workforce disadvantage the realization of gender equality. Even though most of the women are increasingly becoming educated and getting the right and qualified skills, they are still involved manly in more time performing unpaid works and are under-represented in high-skilled jobs. However, more women are becoming hired for leadership positions with many of the companies breaking the stereotypes in the society concerning women involvement in the community. Most of the companies are diversifying their culture to provide more opportunities for women engagement and employment. With the increased efforts and measures in changing the position of women and increasing their involvement in the workforce, the numbers of women involved in the workforce are still below as the labor force has gender disparities.

Methods

To help in investigating and answering the Hypothesis of the study in realizing the position of women in the workforce I utilized the already done research from the McKinsey and Company website done by Jess Huang and other researchers on women in work done in 2019. The study uses data of the 600 companies and large sample of employees involved in the interview and through observation and questionnaire filling to find the views of the public on the matter of investigation. The research, however, utilizes and investigates one variable of women representation in the workplace as an independent variable. The study, however, has limited valid responses which are whether the women are well represented or not in the workplace. To satisfy and answer the Hypothesis, the review answers the questions of whether women are represented and if represented, do they make the desired number to create gender equality in the workplace. And if the conditions have shifted from favoring the male gender alone or they have adopted policies that promote fairness and equality in the workplace. The study takes a comparison of the different charts obtained from the analysis of the data to answer the Hypothesis on women representation in the workplace.

Finding

Over the years, the women representation in the workplace has increased with more companies hiring more females that they used to hire, especially in high positions. The increase is insignificant and more is required form the companies to increase the positions of women in the workplace since the representation increased from 17% to 21% in the C-suite jobs. In terms of the companies representation, 44% of the companies have a minimum of three women in their top management positions of the Company (Huang et al.). The increases are, however, insignificant compared to the positions that men counterparts hold in the same companies and equivalent positions. Still, the women face little pay compared to the same men whom they work with in the same areas.

Conclusion

Consequently, the women representation has increased over the years, but more needs to be done to ensure that there is gender equality in the workforce. Women participating in the workforce experience a lot of discrimination which they face in terms of unfair and harsh treatment due to their sex and are considered as unskilled and receive low salaries compared to their fellow men. Women are subjected to criticism and a lot of prejudice and stereotypes which subjects them to more work with less pay since they are thought that they only can do the household duties and not become economically engaged. Therefore to improve the place of women in the workforce, there is need to change prejudices, perceptions regarding women and enhance the empowerment of women and men to enable them to appreciate and acknowledge the significance of a woman in the workplace.
