DM (Diabetes Mellitus) is a disorder that affects the body’s’ ability to use glucose and the utilization of insulin. Symptoms include increased thirst, increased hunger and frequent urination. Hypoparathyroidism is a condition in which the body produces low levels of PTH while hyperparathyroidism is when the body continues to produce PTH even when the blood levels are above normal range. In the treatment of hypoparathyroidism, efforts are toward control of calcium and phosphorous. Administering high doses of Vitamin D in the activated form of calcitriol helps absorb calcium while removing phosphorous. Since Vitamin D is crucial in the absorption and metabolism of calcium, it is advised that patients that have hyperthyroidism consume the recommended level of vitamin D.
