Identify two information healthcare technology tools that will be included in the simulation and why you have selected the simulation.
Healthcare is now dependent on technology for the provision of quality and effective services. New nurses need to be oriented to the systems. The two essential health information technology that the nurses should be oriented to is Electronic Health Records (EHR) and telecommunication. These two systems are very essential in the facility. EHR is used in the storage of patient’s information from the reception to discharge (Yanamadala et al., 2016). Nurses should understand the process involved in uploading and retrieving data from the system. In addition, they should understand the policies governing the use of the systems. Telehealth is also part of the facility. The technology is used for consultation and helping patients with chronic diseases and thus, nurses being part of the team helping patients with these diseases should understand how to use the system.
Provide a description of the simulation in your unit.
The simulation should be carried out in stages, with one system being covered at a time. The simulation will start with a PowerPoint presentation of the basics of the systems and the policies governing the use of the systems. The next stage should be a practice using virtual data generated by the new nurses and telecommunication between nurses, one acting as a patient (Langarizadeh et al., 2017). The third stage should be the actual feeding of information and actual communication to clients under supervision.
Describe the two ways you will evaluate the efficacy of new nurse competency in these technologies after simulation.
The evaluation will be done in two phases. The first phase will involve assessing the effectiveness of the use of the system by supervision. This will be applied to the two systems. The second phase will involve encouraging the patients to rate the telehealth conversation, which will help in the identification of errors.
