The Advancement in Modern Technology

Technology is the application of knowledge that is scientific usually for practical purposes. The use of modern technology is advancing being used in the industries. This is mostly by the help of the advancements in modern computer technology. Technology can also be referred to as the knowledge that is used in practice through practice to help solve problems or help in innovating tools. Technology can be embedded in the form of machines that usually help in the operation that is with less detailed knowledge of the manner they work. The application of the machines whereby it changes an input and converting it through the system’s use and later giving a detailed end product, this process is usually called the technological system. Developing basic tools is the major simplest form of technology. Technology advancement has gone through various stages since the prehistoric to the Neolithic period. The developments such as telephone, printing press and the internet have solved most of the physical barriers basically in helping people interact and also in communication. Technology is used to make work easier and help do it faster in a way that it is going to meet all the intended requirements. Technology has allowed the growth of economies it has also helped in the rise of the leisure class. The authors Nicholas Carr and Clive Thompson gave their views on technology through writing and out of their own experiences.

“is google making us stupid” an article that is written by Nicholas Curr tries to explain why google might make us stupid. Curr leaves upon us to make a connection between the film produced in 1968 by Stanley Kubrick’s. this is whereby a Hal as making an appeal to Dave who is the astronaut in the poignant brain scene. He says he felt that his brain changed completely on how he used to think and process information and ideas. He finds it very difficult to read and analyze critically whatever he was reading. He adopted shallow reading and information synthesis. In the text ‘is google making us stupid’, Nicholas is concerned in making the point that as we see the internet is becoming our main and primary source of information it has adverse effects on us which include the effect of our ability to read books and other compiled texts and novels Nicholus(313). The fact that the internet gives us immediate information, knowledge and feedback, usually makes our brains brunt and other learning experiences in the process. We find Carr sharing information with his audience on how he cannot concentrate as his fist problem. He explains that he is not the only one with this problem they are many.

Carr explains on how a text in google makes the browsing very fast and with a lot of profit. He says that the internet is programmed to make their owners money and the user’s span of attention and thinking skills are made brunt in the process. He summarizes his argument by analyzing what we usually lose as we use the internet as our main source of information. Considering our mind as a computer is a new idea that feels bad for the loss of deep reading stimulation provided by our brains. The information we get is supposed to be used in improving our idea and not lowering writing. People adapted to the internet tend being opening many tabs at the same time. If one can testify that if advertisement floods the screen and they can concentrate and focus on what they were reading or what they were doing that is then a high level of focus on them. Google was designed to help us with the best method was able to work for everyone in all the levels. Curr is much worried that someday human knowledge can be simplified and converted into artificial intelligence when we continue with the tendency of relying on the computers when gathering information.

The author Clive Thompson of the article, Smarter than you think;” How technology is changing our minds for the better” Many people have come into an agreement that the digital revolution has changed before and is changing how we live. The changes are also changing our personalities this is according to McLuhanite.  There is an agreement on this on whether those changes are for the worse or better. Clive who was a blogger usually lies on the pro-technology side in the argument and says that the way we view things and the cultural production have greatly benefited out of the wired world. The new developments in the new technology that is basically the internet that is the major interest of Clive are the expanded memory, advancement in publishing and communication and communication.

The author Clive Thompson is much concerned on the importance of internet advancement in fields such as in the early learning and education, in the field of medicine and in politics. Thompson does not reveal all facts about the internet and he leaves us untold on why for example why the internet is of no use in the field of art. The relationship between the economy and the internet is left untold Clive(340). Kasparov was anxious after his defeat by deep blue, he tried to fix and experiment on the results after pairing a machine to the human chess player so as they can have a match together. The hybrid that is the machine was to give great defeat on its opponents. Thompson argued that artificial intelligence that is the manufactured intelligence has a capability of thinking by their own as human beings, these machines have the capacity of thinking of thinking better than a human being’s also. Thompson urges that one should not tear being beaten by these machines in chess. This will help us to work in a partnership with the machines to be able to for example diagnose diseases, become experts in crime-solving and poetry writing and end up becoming smarter than we usually think. This is a vision that was expounded by Bush Vannevar 1945 in his book “As we May Think”. The concept was later reborn in by the pioneer of the internet in the 1960s who wrote a paper that was called “Man-computer Symbiosis”. Thomson is much concerned with how intelligent computers is widening our knowledge in different fields. Smarter than you think provides reflections on the present and that of the future. Twitter, Facebook and smartphones are giving us several ways of expressing and passing information. Our thinking is generally going to change as newer developments enter in our society.
