Reflection Practice in Education

Educators are regarded as the busiest professionals on the earth since they never stop working. They encounter students from different backgrounds and with diverse abilities and needs. Therefore, tutors need to continuously improve their knowledge and skills through professional development. Improving professional growth for educators helps to improve the outcome of their students. Additionally, professional growth allows educators to learn effective ways to teach. As educators attain professional growth, teachers also develop better planning and organizational skills.

Over recent years, the concept of reflection has been widely incorporated in teacher’s education program to assist pre- and in-service teachers in their own teaching experience. Reflective teaching is a tool that can be utilized by educators to assess and observe the way they conduct themselves in class. This can be a private process or through discussions with colleagues (Cimer, odabaşı, Vekli, & Doç, 2013). Reflection helps teachers to develop the ability to understand how tutors teach and the best ways to teach them.  Through reflection, educators can identify the barriers to learning that students experience. For instance, by reflecting, teachers will be able to develop a lesson plan which reteaches any contents in which learners do not have access to allowing them to overcome the barriers.

Furthermore, reflection helps educators to develop problem -solving skills. By changing and questioning how you deliver the lessons, a teacher will find better solutions and become more flexible with teaching. Reflective practice also helps to develop confident students. As a result of reflective practice, students will be challenged as the educator uses new methods of teaching in class (Spalding, 2020). From the reflection, the teacher should encourage the learners to embrace challenges in learning and develop confidence in trying something new.
