Discuss the differences between the terms “racial group” and “ethnic group.”
A racial group is considered a group of people with similar observable characteristics like skin and hair bones or even the hair color. Various countries in the world are considered to be of different races since they have different observable physical characteristics. Skin color is mainly the difference that is used to differentiate between races (Flicker, 2016). The ethnic group refers to a group of people that share the same cultural practices as language and their origin or ancestral line. Geographical region and nationality are parts of the ethnicity of a particular ethnic group.

What is the difference between a society and a population?Society is a combination of different groups of species that shave the same environmental factors since they live in a familiar locality. The majority of those species living together can breed and increase their population. On the other hand, the population is the number of a particular species or groups that are living together who are viable to interbreed and increase their numbers.What is the difference between a status and a role?A status is a position that one holds in a particular society. The position is either achieved or ascribed to a person. Status is an occupied position in which one stays in one specific group. The role is the mandate or function that one is mandated to carry out in society. Mostly, the roles are the functions of a specific status in the society. The two relate to each other in a society set up.What is the difference between gemeinschaft and Gesellschaft?Gemeinschaft is a concept that tells more about the community interactions where individual relationships and those of the families are more emphasized and given a priority. It derives from a moderate division of labor. On the other hand, Gesellschaft lays much on secondary interactions or relationships, which is the opposite of the gemeinschaft. Gesellschaft is characterized by the concept of labor division.What is the difference between a primary group and a secondary group?Primary groups are more personal and closely related. Their sizes are usually small, and in most cases, they are more permanent since they can last for long. On the other hand, secondary groups are those that are more impersonal, and they cannot last for long. They are mostly dismantled once their role or objective have been met.Reflection notes There is a close relationship between status and role. In my family, my father is the head of the family, and some roles are associated with his status of being the head of the family. There are issues that I can’t bother with since they are not attached to my status. The same case applies to my father, and some roles don’t matter to him since they are not part of the roles attached to his status.Chapter 6What are some of the social groups that humans regard as most important in their lives?Families are one of the social groups that humans regard as the most important in their lives. Humans cannot live alone like an island; they require other humans for easier coexistence. The family members are considered by the majority of humans as the most important social groups. The majority of humans gather for even family gatherings since that is the most important social group.How does a social group differ from a social category?In a social group, people interact since they have the same characteristics and united towards a common goal. They share the majority of the things, taking the example of a family as a social group. A social category is the opposite of the social group where they don’t share anything, but they share similar characteristics.A few basic principles tend to govern interaction in groups. What are those principles of interaction?Good welfare is of the principle that governs a group interaction. A group must coexist harmoniously with good welfare. Autonomy is the next principle in which the members of the group have the freedom to question or recommend anything associated with the group they belong to.How does an in-group differ from an out-group?An in-group is where one is part and parcel of. One can freely associate with a particular group since he or she is part of it (in-group). An out-group is a group of people where one doesn’t belong. It can also be said as members of the out-group are not the same as those of the in-group.Reflection notes There are indeed some groups that matter more important than others. I consider my family as the most important social group. The family is always on my side no matter what the situation is, even when my closest friends may not be in a position to offer help. That is one of the reasons that I consider the family as the most important social group.Chapter 15Why is the family considered an institution?Family is considered an important social institution because it is created by the blood, which can be a result of birth, marriage, or even adoption. Members of the same family are closely related, and they commonly share the same characteristics (Drentea, 2016). This is why the family is considered to be an important social institution.How does fictive kin impact families?Those are the extended kin who participate in the pooling of resources that are used in familial networks. It is also used in the extension of social assistance in many of the marginalized families. They are family-related members who are not connected by blood nor marriage.How is the concept of kinship related to the concept of a family?Kinship is another name though not a synonym used to mean the same as a family. Members of the same family are usually regarded as kin since they share a common bond, which is the family (Huang, 2016). But the kin is more specifically used to mean the relationship between members of the same family. How does the family of orientation differ from the family of procreation?The family of orientation is considered as the family where one originates or the family where one is born. This is different from the family of procreation because this is the family that one raises when he or she get married to start his own family. It is different from the paternal family, and this means that the children that one will bear will consider your family as their family of orientation.Responses Family is an institution, and it is more of an institution than a group of people who live together. In our lives, no matter where we go in the universe, we will have a connection to our families. It is the same that happened to me when I left for my further studies abroad. I kept remembering my family members more than any other person hence lighting to me that the family is more of an institution.
