The principles that guide goal setting
In terms of wellness, a goal can be defined as an envisioned plan to achieve a specific holistic result in the future. The goal should not be based only on infirmity outcome but rather on mental, physical, and social well-being. The principles that guide goal setting should be based on the need to achieve a fulfilling life (NIH, 2020). Establishing well-defined goals play a significant role in setting up an individual towards a path to achieving wellness. First, established goals give direction to an individual’s activities while seeking to achieve specific results. Established goals are a form of self-evaluation process which provides an individual with boxes to be ticked after every objective is met (ODPHP, 2020). When goals that are set are specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound, self-evaluation is simplified. Subsequently, establishing goals plays a crucial role in achieving wellness as it determines and dictates the activities and individual does.
Established goals are also important in tracking the progress of an individual. In every wellness journey, progress is essential because it means that a person is moving in the right direction. Progress can be measured through the attainment of goals at every step of the way. Goals also act as a diary to dictate when and how things are supposed to be done in terms of physical activities, mental exercises such as meditation, and types of diet to be consumed daily. Therefore, the dairy ensures that an individual does not forget or end up mixing the wrong types of activities that have been set for the day. Additionally, established goals also set the activities to be done in the order of their priority. Prioritizing activities to be done in a wellness journey is important so that the essential goals are achieved early and then supplemented with the less important ones.
Reaching established goals in a wellness journey also requires a lot of commitment and preparation. American Council on Exercise states that the best way of achieving wellness goals begins with the setting process (ACE, 2013). Goals should be set in a SMART manner, which ensures that they are achievable and time-bound (Dhaughey, 2012). Time is an essential factor in the wellness journey because it determines whether there is progress or not. Additionally, achieving wellness is also dictated by behavior. It is advisable that an individual changes his or her attitude to align it with the objectives and goals. Establishing goals is also crucial for an organization or office set-up because, in such an environment, it is easy to obtain valid results by setting objectives (NCHPAD, 2018). In organizations, goals are also used to create awareness about the possible gains from physical, mental, and social exercises. In organizations, establishing goals also form an implementation process of the office objectives. Subsequently, an organization can roll out wellness activities similarly as they would have done other office projects.
In conclusion, physical, mental, and social exercises have significant impacts on people’s wellness journey. It is crucial that people stick to the process and faithfully work towards achieving the set wellness goals. Established goals help an organization identify what is helpful and what is not, especially when using wellness action. The wellness action plan has to be an agreement among all the organization members so that it acts as an official guide to physical and mental exercises.
