Factor Accelerating Mobile Computing

The development of smartphones with multiple applications has made the current population a mobile generation. People can now perform a wide array of information intensive activities on mobile phone from any location. Since mobile computing has become part of daily human life, mobile computing is seamlessly flowing into business and it is likely to become an integral part of major business operations. There are various factors accelerating the use of mobile computing in various areas.

One of the factors is the development of powerful mobile devices and networks. Before the development of smartphones, most mobile devices were bulky and less powerful. Modern generation mobile phones are equipped with large storage dual-core processors and high-resolution displays. There is also a significant difference in the bandwidth of traditional and current generation phones. Modern smartphones are Wi-Fi bound with fast 3G and 4G computing speeds. These allow users to access information and use it for value creation in business (Alsanea, 2015).

Mobile computing is also the basis for competitive advantage. Organizations and companies use mobile technology to facilitate better customer interactions and become more responsive, an aspect that gives a business an advantage over others (Zhu, Nah, & Zhao, 2003). Mobile computing also creates a perception to customers that a company is big and rich in resources because of the ability to offer real-time services. Therefore, to acquire such advantages, organizations are highly investing in mobile computing as a central part of business.

The shift to the cloud has also accelerated mobile computing in the modern world. Organizations access business intelligence software and other vital applications using software as a service. Additionally, companies are increasingly moving their data to the cloud SaaS applications and data stored in the cloud can be accessed through web-based services by using mobile services.
