Factors that fueled the need for IT Governance
IT governance is vital as it provides a structure that organizations can use to adjust their IT approach to various business techniques. When organizations implement a formal structure, it is easy to deliver quality and quantifiable outcomes towards achieving their desired objectives (Ali, 2020). To achieve these, organizations have to adopt new tools and processes, which are the basis of IT success in an organization.
Various factors fuels the need for IT governance in organizations. One of the factors is governance structure. Governance structure is basically the management and leadership structure in an organization and how it enables the organization to make effective and efficient decisions. Organizations need IT governance so that they can establish a governance structure that complements the existing framework. This will ensure that the organization can integrate different frameworks in the future as its IT capabilities improve.
Culture is also a factor that fuels the need for implementing IT governance. Since organizational culture is unique in different organizations, organizations should have the capabilities to address any cultural changes in a planned and effective manner. There is also the need to clearly define the roles and responsibilities. When roles and responsibilities are documented, defined, and well assigned within a governance structure, there are expectations based on these roles. With clear expectations, it is easy to achieve success.
The significant increase of cyberattacks, have seen organizations implement the ISO 27001 standard. IOS standards ensure help organizations enhance their preparedness against attacks. ISO standards have significant impact on network security by enhancing information security and being a source of criminal justice for cybercrimes. For example, ISO/IEC 27043 provides guidelines that are useful in facilitating successful investigations (Kao, 2017). The principles ensure organizations are aware of the correct response procedures to different types of attacks.
