FEMINISM AND STRUGGLE FOR TOTAL EQUALITY
It is important to note, however, that all movements usually have a primary focus or goal; hence even the feminist movement focuses majorly on rights of women. While still looking into the rights of the other parties, focusing more efforts on the rights of women is likely to ensure much more success in the long-term. The success of this is evidenced by the relatively high number of women presidents, CEOs, and renowned activists around the world, compared to previous times.
The success of women has also resulted in large strides for the rest of the oppressed in society seeking equality. Women are also regarded as more open to helping others in need, as they, over the years, have developed a deep understanding into what it feels like to be discriminated against; hence they lend a helping hand to conquer any injustice. As a result, a person that becomes a party to feminism not only seeks justice for the women but achieves it for way more people in society. Another obstacle to the success of the feminist movement has been its guise as a hate group towards men, with no reasonable explanation as to why. This has contributed to its downfall as the false assumptions are targeted towards men, who stand as the primary beneficiaries of the oppression against women; hence they work against it.
As stated earlier, the current patriarchal society is largely favoured towards men, who get the majority of the opportunities, both socially and in an economical aspect. According to UN Women (2018), women are largely disadvantaged when it comes to exposure to opportunities. As a result, feminism is their last ditch effort against men that still stick to the notion that women deserve inferior positions in society. It is only through the cooperation of both males and females that equality will be realized and carried on to the next generation.
With the realization of gender equality, the success of other movements like those for racial equality are soon to follow, as the success of one leads to added belief in the others. A society that benefits one gender over the other despite no apparent differences between them is one that will never progress to further heights. This holds true to the fact that feminism is not just for the benefit of women but seeks to aid all the disadvantaged. The powerful women in the world are enough to implement this change.
Even the feminist movement, however, can’t accomplish their goals without help from other parties and movements, as the manpower for such a fight would be lacking. It is only when all groups of oppressed people come together to achieve a common goal that discrimination and other vices will be eliminated from society. When they pursue individual goals, however, it becomes much harder to accomplish any notable change.
It is true that all people were born equal regardless of race, colour or gender, and no force should work to create differences based on these largely physical attributes. Equality is a responsibility for all humans, as discrimination stems from a mentality taught to them; hence can be easily unlearnt. Feminism is and has always been a strong advocate for equality. This it aims to do by removing all aspects of society that tend to disadvantage one group over another, and through it, equality can eventually be realized.
Reflection
The article i wrote had the primary purpose of detailing the place of feminism as a movement seeking rights for all as opposed to a single group, women in this case. İt was, therefore, more of a debunking of previous notions that the group serves the sole purpose of driving the hate agenda against men. From the onset, i sought a neutral ground by establishing the ways in which feminism fights for the rights of other parties too. For instance, i detailed how, with the success of feminism, other movements will consequently follow in the same success owing to the motivation such a victory will instill in them. This establishes my neutrality to the reader, which then goes on to build trust in the fact that feminists fight for overall equality. As much as I sought to present feminism as a neutral movement, I purposed to explain why it is usually considered as centred on the interests of women. This I did by explaining how, to achieve overall equality, a movement ought to focus on a single aspect to achieve more success and act as a foundation for the success of the rest. İ also employed the use of credible sources to substantiate my claims. For instance, the data by UN, which shows that women are disadvantaged when it comes to opportunities.
