Clinical Certification and Target Population Setting
Desire to achieve quality service delivery in the medical sector necessitated the establishment of structures and professional bodies that sets the qualifications and requirements in the nursing profession. Certified hospice and palliative nurse ensures qualified professional nurses attain the required qualification to be given a license to practice as hospice and palliative nurses (Finkelman, 2020). Most patients benefit from the services rendered by the nurses registered with the association. Some of the patients that benefits include end of life care patients, recovering patients who have undergone surgical processes, and those undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit (Finkelman, 2020). The target population is mainly patients in palliative and hospice patient care who are either in the high dependency unit or in the operating room.
Correlation between Certification and Setting
A nurse needs certification in handling patients who are in operating rooms or high dependency unit to demonstrate many objectives. First, nurses prove that they have adequate skills and knowledge in the wider field of hospice and palliative care to gain the confidence of patients and their guardians (Finkelman, 2020). Secondly, devote their commitment to this area of specialization as the can advance their education based on hospice and palliative care (Finkelman, 2020). Most non-governmental organizations provide scholarships for nurses’ advancement in the field. In addition, they provide adequate funds that are used in research and innovation in the hospice and palliative care to enhance quality service delivery in treating the patients thus improving the professional progression of the nurses. There is a positive correlation between the nurses and the hospice and palliative as the nurses continue to master more knowledge in the high dependency unit consequently improving the patient outcome. Finally, as individuals, nurses gain recognition in the health care industry while obtaining personal incentives (Finkelman, 2020).
Criteria for Clinical Certification
For a nurse to be registered as a certified hospice and palliative nurse should undergo tests offered by the body. Tests are administered to individuals who have an unrestricted license and have successfully practiced hospice and palliative care for a minimum of 3 weeks within the previous year or a minimum of 6 weeks within the previous two years (Finkelman, 2020). An RN license is required to obtain a license that guarantees and individual to be registered.
Nurses have to attain above the minimum score to pass the hospice and palliative care exams. Once nurses are successful with the exam, they a minimum fee of $415 or a minimum of $295 for HPNA members (Finkelman, 2020). The exam description is about specialty contents incurred during operation rooms and the high dependency unit. The exam also tests specialization in areas covering the hospice and palliative care, for instance, competence and confidence in managing dying patients, expertise in the area of specialization in nursing, knowledge, and skills on how to be accountable in hospice and palliative professional (Finkelman, 2020). Successful candidates are certified to practice for 4 years and are recommended to renew their certificate (Finkelman, 2020). Renewal entails undergoing continuous retesting or involving themselves in Hospice and palliative Accrual for Recertification that allocates marks for continuous progress hospice patients care.

To increase service delivery and improve patient outcomes in health care centers, there should be proper management of materials, people, and cost regulation (Leal, 2018). The services rendered by professional nurses should be valued appropriately to be affordable to the patients that deserve them (Leal, 2018). Medicare leaders should manage the nurses appropriately by providing them proper remuneration and incentives as they deliver their services to the patients.
