The affair
It was payday. Jenny had worked for a couple of days to raise 50 dollars. The work was tedious; she had to perform all the task while standing and bending from sweeping the ever dusty compound to brushing and scrubbing the slippery and the unpolished toilets. Indeed Jennie loves him passionately, and Jenny would do anything manly possible to meet him at the city. The place she had never set a footprint. She walked steadily to his office, smiling delightfully. The boss of the Cable limited was seated on his antique wooden chair. Jenny reminded the boss that it was a payday, and she had come to collect her due. The boss with his lustful eyes informed Jenney she would have to wait for a little longer since the company had incurred losses in that particular month. However, he gave her 20 dollars, and Jenny was to come for the balance the following month. She walked out, broken down, and exhausted.
The sun had disappeared in the dark clouds, and the blackness little by little engulfed the whole atmosphere. Jenney tip-toed to his mother bedroom; the inky darkness surrounded the entire room; her parents were dead asleep. She straightened his hands and opened her mother’s purse. Jenny took the bunch of dollar notes and stealthily worked out of the room. She stepped into the darkness that blended well with the action with attires and the clothing she had worn. Her unconscious parents did not notice the flanging of the door nor the footsteps of Jenny. The atmosphere was silent, silence that gnawed. Jenny was anxious, but what could she do? She loved Jeremy. Their love was unfathomable.
Jeremy had traveled to the city to pursue a course in commerce. He had promised her that she would marry him after school. But now, Jeremy had completed his studies. What was wrong with Jeremy? That was one of the questions that lingered on jenny head as she headed to the bus station. She had to board two buses. The journey to the city was long.
Nonetheless, she had to buy the tickets. Today I must meet the lover of my life, and it has been long. Those are thoughts that crisscrossed jenny’s mind as she waited patiently for two hours for the bust to set off.
The journey began. One huge melancholic man sat next to Jenny. Jenny recalled the nights and the days they had spent with Jeremy. She barely noticed the man who had just sat next to him. In a moment nobody had an idea of what was in the offing. The man seated next to jenny suddenly woke up. The silence engulfed the atmosphere, the silence that spoke more than the words could do. The gigantic man had an explosive on his hand; he requested all the passengers to remain silent and ordered the driver to drive to another destination. All the passengers sobbed controllably. It was a deadly encounter.
The vehicle veered off the road as one of the invaders pointed a gun to the driver. In a couple of minutes, the captors covered all the passenger’s eyes in the bus were covered with a filthy dark piece of clothing. They could hardly see anything. The bus stopped suddenly. All the passengers become captives — the captors with vigor and full of pride they instructed where the prisoners would go. The room was huge, dark, and dusty and was not fit to be a human inhabitant. They were all holed up in that filthy place. She had hoped to meet her lover in a few hours’ times, but now she had to fight for his life. They were in the hand of strangers, heartless strangers. They gave them no chance to speak and fed them with nasty and unpalatable food. It was a horrible situation for Jenny and the company.
Jenny had worked as a toilet, and compound cleaner and the foul smell of the room did not perturb her as much as the other passengers. All the passengers except Jenny were crying and sobbing bitterly as the threats and persecutions of the captors escalated. One of those good for nothing men asked Jenney and two women to follow them. They assigned them the responsibility to cook and wash utensils for all the people. That was an opportune moment for Jenny. Tears of despondences rolled down the chicks of Jenny. The captors had curtailed her hopes and aspirations. She recalled the cold and her spirited efforts to see Jenny.
The sun was fading, and all the captive were preparing to go asleep as one of the captors opened the doorway to the disgusting room, where Jenny and all the prisoners were. Jenny noticed the man had drunk silly. She struck her with him with her sharp elbow. To her utter disbelief, the man felt with thunderous applause. The other captors were busy drinking and celebrating their success. They had captured enough victims to claim ransom from their relatives. It was absurd. Jenny did not hesitate; he took the pistol from the hand s of the captor. Shivering and inexperience with the use of guns and pistols Jenney walked into the room and asked her fellow captives to prepare for escape. Other doubted her, but she was confident and determined to escape.
The fresh cold sea breeze blew over the plain. The fool moon lit the sky insinuating the glitter of hope for the captives. Jenney gathered all the courage and confronted the other heartless men. They were notorious drank. However, they tried to scare Jenny, but she was resilient. She could not give in. Since they did not have their gun at disposal, they had to surrender. Jenney instructed one of the captives to tie the captors up and blindfold them as they had done to them. Jenny had outwitted them all. All the passengers could hardly believe they had how the tiny girl had rescued them. Tears of joy cascaded down their cheeks as they embraced one another. All the passenger entered the bus.
The blackness faded away, welcoming the brilliant sun rays. The bus curled its way into the city center. Jenny alighted, she was delighted, and her smile was radiant. All the passengers give her gifts to appreciate the act of bravery and the way she had rescued them from the jaws of death. One of the passengers even offered her a job opportunity in the city. Jenny, limped with joy, she thanked her fellow captives, and Jenny left the bus stop with a happy face. Her eyes glued to a figure seated at the standard plastic chair at the bus stop. It was Jeremy, the lover of her life. He was restless and exhausted. He had expected Jenny to arrive the previous day, but to his dismay, the visit never materialized. Jenny walked towards Jeremy, they hugged, embraced one another affectionately. It was a soul- swelling experience. The sun brilliance was dazzling with splendor enjoining the two souls into one.
Jeremy walked jenny throughout the city, explaining one thing or two. Jenny narrated her encounter with the captors and how she had to escape and steal some money from her parents. Jeremy crystal ball eyes glittered with the tears of joy; he holds jenny with both arms as the two remained entangled for a couple of minutes. Finlay, they drove to a well-furnished apartment. It was from Jeremy residence. The two finally got married they compensated the parents for the loss, and finally, Jenny was able to work in the city after one of the captives offered her a job in one of the huge companies. Their love had conquered all.
