American Democracy Now

American Democracy Now the 6th edition by Brigid Harrison, Jean Harris, and Michelle Deardorff, envelops the American political structure has developed over the years.

Chapter one; People, politics, and participation are the heart of America’s democracy, with various ideologies as a base of how its people view the policies and issues. The government’s interaction through different ideologies, liberal and conservative, offers perspectives to the extent of government role in society.  Popular sovereignty is defined as a theory that created government; people depend on the people to rule the people. The use of technology as a tool in politics has been well documented with the gradual incorporation in elections over the years. The first chapter outlines the social contract theory and how it fits in with American ideologies, the creation of government through the Declaration of Independence, and the amendments.

Chapter two; The Constitution, breaks down government into three branches a bicameral legislature, a federal court system, and a single executive. Each arm of government has defined roles; although all are intertwined thus no branch can act in autonomous authority over the other branches. The Connecticut compromise, incorporation of the New Jersey Plan and the Virginia Plan, created the bicameral congress creating a balance of representative power between the states. The three-fifths concession stated the enslaved person as three-fifths of a free man.

Chapter three; Federalism. The constitution creates a platform where two governments interact, where the federal government has power and authority over the state government. The anti-federalists opposed the constitution feeling the federal government has too much power than state government. This begged the creation of the Bill of Rights, https://essaygroom.com/democracy-is-a-system-form-or-mechanism/this enshrined the freedom and rights of persons who were suspect of crimes.  The three chapters give an analysis and background of the American system of governance and how all parties interact seamlessly.
