Selflessness and the Joy of Giving
Being raised from selflessness moulded me into the person, I am today. It taught me the joy of putting the interest of others above mine. I realized selflessness brings joy and happiness to one’s life. My parents led a happy and peaceful life. Acts of selflessness lead to the feeling of self-accomplishment. As a result, one develops a sense of comfort and happiness (Dambrun, 1). The character has helped me to contribute positively to society. I remember during the last summer, I was able to able help many young people at a local learning institution. I took up the responsibility of teaching and mentoring elementary school students. I taught them different skills and knowledge that I believe would shape them into better beings. For example, the dangers of engaging in deviant behaviours such as drug and substance abuse. I taught them about the dangers of drug abuse, such as their physical and mental health status. I also taught them to solve arithmetic problems. All these I did without pay.
Teaching and mentoring student brought satisfaction and happiness in my life. The belief that my action would shape the future of the students made me feel proud of myself. As a result, I felt contented with my life. Therefore, I will continue giving back to the community. In the future, I would be supporting people in my community. I apply the skills I learned from school to influence the future of the young generation. I believe my action would bring more happiness and comfort into my life. Experts have linked the act of selflessness to joy in life. They argue that selflessness brings lasting happiness (Dambrun, 1). Individuals who exhibit selflessness tend to have lasting happiness in their lives.
