Concept Analysis
There exist four concepts of nursing: the patient, environment, nursing, and health (Andrews & Boyle, 2008). In this analysis, the selected idea is nursing, which is the actual nursing process involving leadership, decision making, and ways of handling the patient’s needs apart from their health concerns.
The defining attributes of nursing are the nursing care objectives, Nursing professional principles, the focus of nursing care, nursing fields of care, features of the nurses, levels of education, the audiences of nursing, and the role of nursing on nursing care (Fukada, 2018).
Nursing professional values entail human dignity, holistic care of the patient, and respect for patient rights, integrity, and participation in patients’ care.
A nurse’s level of education is the academic qualifications of a nurse, e.g., a Bachelor’s or a diploma certificate.
Fields of nursing are the areas where nursing care is provided, which includes the patient’s environment, academic centers, healthcare center, and society.
The antecedent of this concept is that the patient cannot confront and cope with falling out of psychological, physiological, social, and spiritual balance. The patient requires assistance to realize good health (Demir & Rodwell, 2012).
A consequence of the concept is that the patient can cope and return to return to good physiological, social, and psychological health.
A case of grace having a Bachelor of Science in nursing diagnoses a patient, Paul, with gastrointestinal bleeding and taken to the gastroenterology ward. The patient is in critical condition, and grace handles him professionally with respect. She closely monitors physiological and psychological changes and designs a proper medication communication with the patient, and after adequately examining him, she provides a list of his problems. She develops a healthcare plan in consultation with the patient’s physician.
From the model, the following are identifiable attributes.
Level of education- grace has a bachelor of science in nursing.
The field of nursing- gastroenterology ward is the patient’s environment.
Professional nursing values and audience of nursing care- she handles the patient with care and professionalism.
Role of nursing in nursing care- the nurse develops a healthcare plan with the doctor.
Application
This nursing concept applies to the Theory of Human Caring (Watson & Woodward, 2010). Jean Watson formulated it, and it gives the highlighted psychological and humanistic features of nursing as it administers the nursing and scientific practice.
Reflection
From this experience, I find the nursing process entails more than scientific nursing aspects and includes the patient’s psychological stabilization.
