PSYCHOLOGICAL EFFECTS OF CORPORAL PUNISHMENT TO STUDENTS
Corporal punishment is predetermined to cause boy harm. It is generally a means of installing discipline or a method of restoring order. This research paper is going to be based purely on the negative impacts of corporal punishment on students. It is essential to discuss this topic to eliminate it to stabilize our students’ psychological status. It is without a doubt that corporal punishment causes mental disturbance not only to students but to anyone else that may be affected.
This research focuses on a study of corporal punishment on student’s behavior, how it later affects their academics. Studying requires full concentration, and anything that diverts the attention of students affects his or her studies. Corporal punishments to students create fear, and a research has been conducted that differentiate between fear and respect. Fear causes a lot of anxiety; therefore, more concentration is taken away.
In another instance, we have some cultural beliefs that promote corporal punishment. For example, in African countries, it is believed it is only through corporal discipline that an African child can change. Thus is further narrowed down to modes of raising families. A parent raised through corporal punishment is highly likely to raise his children the same way. This is therefore inherited, and it becomes a culture.
Learning institutions have got rules that govern them. In the colonial education system, corporal punishment was the order of the day countries in Africa, such as Kenya, and Zimbabwe had an Education system that was highly characterized by such discipline according to the research conducted by Harber and Meighan in 1987. For the sake of performance, through the study conducted using questionnaires, it was deduced some schools still use corporal punishment to get good results.
According to the research conducted in the African countries, it was later discovered that corporal punishment is not helpful in the modern world as it sometimes causes stigmatization among students. This is not a positive gesture. There are many ways of correcting students when they make a mistake, and corporal punishment should not be one of them for their welfare. Students suffer from corporal penalties more than those in boarding schools because they stay there longer than their colleges in day school. Therefore, students should not be allowed to live in fear by getting alternative ways of instilling discipline in them.
Let us take a look at the below table that showed the impact of corporal punishment in school. The study involves 300 students, and professor Abdul conducted it.

It is, therefore, evident that continuations of corporal punishment in school will soon steer up violence. This is because students are against it. If we continue experiencing this, they might start demonstrating in schools. It is, therefore, my appeal that. This kind of punishment should be abolished with immediate effect as it is harming students.
