The ability of an individual to realize strengths and weaknesses is important not only to the individual life but also to the career. One needs to embrace both the negativity and positivity equally as they both contribute to achieving our goals through daily experiences. When the strengths and weaknesses are well monitored and put at a balance, a balanced life is achieved. Through understanding ourselves, the strengths and weaknesses are uncovered which help in solving problems experienced in nursing practice. Understanding our strengths and weaknesses enhance our leadership skills in nursing practice. Nurse leadership has the most direct influence on healthcare needs and the services offered to patients and services; thus it is their role to maintain a professional culture to maintain nurse experts.

Personal accountability makes one responsible for their work as well as the quality of work offered to others. On the other hand, professional accountability makes individuals responsible for their actions while in the workplace. Personal and professional accountability are both important as they make nurses successful in their work as well as their roles as leaders. About personal and professional accountability, my strengths include offering the best quality of care to patients which also contribute positively to my skills and competency. Besides, I am well organized which is my culture both at the workplace and in other daily activities. I ensure that whatever is done is arranged and planned for so that the important things can be prioritized. This strength allows me to perform duties on time and to ensure that urgent things are attended first to avoid procrastination. I am hardworking which has assisted in the completion of tasks on time.

I have excellent communication skills. Nursing competency is determined by the communication skills that one possesses since it is the ability to communicate and connect with patients that ensure minimal errors and quality care to all patients and families. This strength enhances my relationship with patients as well as my workmates which has improved my skills in the treatment and care of patients. The communication skills enhance my ability to solve conflicts arising in healthcare setup, improving my leadership skills. My other strength is an ability to work with a team while also maintaining self-respect and respect for others. I am also well motivated which has improved my ability to motivate others in the workplace. My weakness is increased trust and completing tasks quickly. Due to increased trust, I end up delegating tasks to the wrong nurse which at some times give wrong medication to patients. Completing tasks quickly have led to increased errors and straining others in the workplace.

In the line of career planning, my strengths include the experience in have gained in the field of nursing. Through the experience, I have gained confidence in treating and caring for patients as well as leading others in the nurse practice. Besides, my education has contributed to my strengths in the career line. To add on this, my career background has equipped me with skills and knowledge in line with technical nursing and the skills can be employed in decision making as well as problem-solving in a nursing career. I follow workplace ethics which has assisted in guiding my career expectations towards health promotion among all patients and population. Despite having several career strengths, I have a weakness in time management which has greatly affected my career concerning planning activity.

In relation to my personal journey disciplines, I have had strengths and weaknesses while developing as a nurse leader. Among my many strengths, one of them is my ability to work individually as well as a team. With the strength, I allow team members to participate in problem-solving and decision making which has improved my understanding of different characters required for leaders. Working in teams also creates an opportunity for exploiting my skills as a leader which has a positive impact on my personal journey discipline. I inspire team members to perform to their level best through performing my roles in the nursing practice. Through the inspiration, most nurses have developed leadership skills that enable them to solve any leadership problem facing them in their field of practice. My weakness in this journey is increased expectation from my team members and others who I assign the job. High expectations lead to frustration and increased conflicts in the organization as a leader.

Reflective practice reference behavior in my career pat calls for the ability to execute leadership behavior diligently. My strength in reflective practice is the ability to serve all patients with quality care and minimal discrimination. What is more, I encourage colleagues to maintain high standards of leadership skills and beliefs. Principles of leadership in nursing care allow nurses to promote professionalism, especially when conducting their duty. Having a duty to care for all patients without discrimination has promoted my leadership skills in line to nursing practice. Besides, I encourage my colleagues to practice professionalism during the completion of their tasks. As a role model and a leader, I discourage other nurses from personal interest and encourage them to serve patients as their priority in a line of work. I also believe in the end result of my practice where I prioritize improved health for my patient. The same spirit is instilled to my colleagues where I advise them to work towards achieving safe and quality care for all. My weakness is that I like things done my way. My colleagues describe me as being bossy which is something I should change to improve my relationship with them.

Various ways I can use the current leadership skills set in nursing to advocate for change include ensuring quality delivery of services by all nursing practitioners. To promote this, I will encourage nurses to place service delivery at the frontline before serving their needs which will ensure a healthy work environment. I will also push all nurses to work collaborative and in teams to meet the needs of patients and to attain relevant competency in the line of work. Creating a workable environment is my goal which will motivate nurses to share skills and knowledge regarding nursing practice. I will also use the leadership skills to create a diverse workplace where all the needs of nurses will be met regardless of their culture. To achieve workplace diversity, more nurses will be hired from different backgrounds to cater for the needs of a diverse population.

My personal goal for leadership growth is to learn how to use my strength to overcome my weaknesses I leadership. With such achievement, I will be in a position to train my colleague’s different ways to work on their setbacks to achieve a common goal. My field of practice has several challenges that can affect the effectiveness of services delivered to patients. To fight the weaknesses and challenges in nursing practice, I will enroll a course on leadership where I will learn in different ways leaders overcome their weaknesses. The knowledge will be translated to improved leadership skills and growth in my career as a nurse leader.
