Genetically modified tomatoes
In the current world that is occasioned with increased technological innovation and invention, the world has experienced significant changes to include introducing foods that are genetically modified. This is known to have an effect on the price of the food items, with an example being tomatoes. The introduction of genetically modified tomatoes can lead to a significant decrease in the prices of tomatoes as there will be an oversupply of such food items within a very short time. Consequently, the farmers will be equally affected by a fall in demand for their output.
On the other hand, when it comes to the geographical area where the tomatoes are grown, such kind of region will experience a lack of economic development in terms of infrastructure. This is because the taxes that were initially collected within such regions, which were meant for such purposes, will now reduce as a result of a fall in demand for the tomatoes within such regions. Besides that, in the area where tomatoes are generally placed on salad bars in winter, there will be no such incidences again as people will now focus on GMOs as this is not so demanding.
Conversely, a firm may decide to give some of their offerings for free at zero price. This is so as to ensure that such a commodity becomes famous in the market. Such scenarios usually occur when the commodity in subject becomes slow-moving in the market. Taking such an action does not usually mean that the firm wants to look nice as it incurred some cost to ensure that the commodity gets to the client.
