Jean Watson and Florence Nightingale Theories

Jean Watson’s theory of human caring is an essential aspect of the health sector. Jean states that providing care to the patients in the hospital facilities helps in regenerating energies and increases the capabilities towards the patient’s recovery process. The benefits of the care provision in hospitals are immeasurable on professional and personal levels. Florence Nightingale’s theory is also an essential aspect of the healthcare sector. It emphasizes the need to utilize the patient’s environment to help in the patient’s recovery process. Environmental factors are categorized into pure or clean water, fresh air, high level of cleanliness, excellent and effective drainage systems, and light are the critical parts of the environment that are captured in the Environmental theory that helps speed up the recovery process of the patient. From the two approaches, the patient recovery process is emphasized as the arguments aim to improve the patient’s recovery process.

The integration of the two theories can best suit the healthcare sector by helping in the patient recovery process, which is effective and efficient at the same time. The Jean Watson theory lays much emphasis on the role of the nurse towards the patient’s recovery process. The nurse is supposed to provide moral and emotional support to the patient aiding the process. The nurse is entitled to help in the patient’s recovery and improve the patient to find the meaning of his or her illness. It will be the first step to recovery if the patient is in a position to understand its meaning. The environmental factors will also help in the recovery process since the patient requires a clean environment to avoid secondary infections that may lead to other secondary infections. It would be essential to integrate the two theories to help patient recovery.
