EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Communication has become an essential concern for the education sector to manage the staff as well as students. Electronic mail is one of the communication tools used by college and universities in the UK. The poster represents the usage of email in the region of the UK as per given dataset. Hence, the purpose of critique is analysing the poster, and it’s positive as well as negative points regarding dataset.

Additionally, poster critique will also suggest some better approach for showcasing the data visuals. Visualisation is an effective process to demonstrate survey results for email usage inside the poster. However, if the data visualisation is not appropriate to the context, the meaning gets changed. Therefore, poster critique defines the importance of data visuals in context with survey results for selective dataset group.

INTRODUCTION

Email usage was the topic for dataset represented on the poster through data visualisation tools and images. The scenario was the performance of survey for education providers group for understanding email use habits. The poster is an effective way to showcase the research results within a static graphical representation rather than moving illustrations (Rezaeian, 2017). Hence, survey results were implemented on the poster, which helps data visuals and pictorial presentation. The purpose of this report is to analyse the poster presentation and offer critique towards doing’s and don’ts. Moreover, the critique report will form a conversion to explore poster from the view of the maker (Coyle, 2017). Hence, if data visuals are imperfect on a poster presentation, it is difficult to understand the survey results.

POSTER DESCRIPTION AND ANALYSIS

The purpose of this poster was to show the survey results; however, a better data visual could have expressed data much better. The different headings, subheadings were used to describe the results from the research provided as per instructions. The headings include an introduction, dataset description, analysis, conclusions and recommendations, and reference list. Furthermore, references presented information taken from other credible sources successfully. Additional data visualisation tools such as charts and line graphs were also identified inside the poster. Overall, details for identifying data is also described with in-depth knowledge by the product creator.

Poster presentation used different pieces to offer collective research results from the survey. Section division increases the readability of the audience looking at the presentation in a first glance (Qiang et al., 2019). Overall, the interpretation had proper sections to represent survey results; for example, “introduction” offer the purpose of email usage and its advantage as well as limitations. Each part was associated with each other was synched into the flow. As per human development, the poster pieces are accurate and demonstrate the purpose effectively. Additionally, information and data visuals are appropriate and in context to the topic. However, colour combination for each section could be much better if visualisation was placed as per bar chart and pie chart usage.

Poster presentation raised several questions inside the mind for different headings and illustrations. The graphical representation is used to illustrate the information through images, visuals and other tools on a poster (Rossignac, 2010). However, one of the key questions for the poster was a single colour for the background. The different combination could highlight the analysis and description section drastically. Next question which raised into mind was lack of information for the visual part. Although the description is gathered; but lacking incorporation for advantages of email usage respectively. Hence, other data visuals are proposed for poster presentation to define survey results on email usage uniquely.

CRITICAL ANALYSIS FOR POSTER SECTIONS

Introduction

This section introduced the usage of email in general with the purpose of communication within the professional space. Furthermore, showcasing the benefits of email to the education sector such as speed, accuracy, attachments for documents and employee interaction for any queries related to the task. Hence, email usage is essential because it offers a systematic approach to the interaction between people. However, an individual scenario with a graph could have highlighted benefits more effectively. The product creator has also identified problems associated with the email, such as lack of server, spams, and phishing attacks through email notifications. The proposed data visual such as bar graph could show how much attacks have been happened on email accounts.

Dataset Description

The dataset description identifies what the given dataset for the employees in UK HE was. For example, the questionnaire is offered, so that understanding for data visualisation is improved. Approximately 1010 respondents were presented so that the survey could be taken. The cumulative responses from the employees were recorded for better representation. However, a line graph seems appropriate for showing recorded results. Even through line graph is represented, however, the effective colour could have highlighted the results much better.

Analysis

The analysis section is much more prominent as compared to other sections because it shows results obtained after the survey. Additionally, classification for other groups is given with recorded responses. The description for data visuals like a pie chart and line chart is analysed and resulted systematically. Hence, the section is complete and offer a better result in a very significant manner.

Recommendations and Conclusion

In this section, recommendations and conclusion for the future of email for education providers are offered. The results conclude that email usage should be increased frequently, however keeping the consequences in mind. Hence, email is an effective source of communication with other employees as well as students.

References

The references are used from a proper source with author, date, complete publication name, journal name and other information. Additionally, authors are credible enough for use in the poster representation.

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR POSTER ANALYSIS

After analysing the poster content, visuals, and design, a proposal for two important theories are discussed. Following theories must be considered so that the poster could be made effective and explanatory for audiences.

  • Theory of Visualisation

Theory of visualisation is a process which analyses data for individual and group audience for better understanding of a system and its abstract processes effectively. However, if visualisation is improper, it does not offer any clear explanation. Similarly, the poster does not adopt the theory of visualisation because it excludes the necessary elements. Elements like length, density, size, and hue should be applied appropriately so that critical data is picked and judgements for them is made (Medium, 2017). As per poster analysis, it can be concluded that elements of visuals are completely missing in pie chart and line graph. Following visual must be considered as they are aligned with the theory of visualisation.

  • Pie Chart:It is a circular graph with each slice divided out of the whole pie of 100 per cent. For example, in below diagram use of a search engine depicted out of 100 per cent as well as division and percentage in bright colours. However, in the poster, the pie chart is wrong and oppose the theory of visualisation completely due to the lack of elements for size, hue, and density.

  • Line Chart:Two variables are used in the below pictorial representation with a single line showing the range for data. Even though the line graph is used in the poster, it requires more alignment for data representation.

  • Theory of Storytelling

Theory of storytelling proposes a concept that determines a human’s experience with story narrative. The story can be considered as a series of events that has contextual knowledge for what occurred, who was present, as well as which place it held (Antunes, Pino and Tate, 2019). Furthermore, storytelling feature explains activities which occur through execution, control and decision making for a particular situation. However, the lack of storytelling makes the concept quite weak and dissolve the message given by the person. Therefore, it is necessary to incorporate storytelling theory in poster making. The poster could show the journey of email usage in higher education through employee-oriented narration. The following diagram is an example of storyboard which explain the process of digital storytelling. Similarly, usage of email for an employee could be depicted by journey mapping of the story. It will create a connection with the audience to conclude how much email communication is used by education providers.

CONCLUSION

To summarise, poster presentation is an essential and effective way of researching the results for a particular dataset. Furthermore, data visualisation tools in poster making is another solution for research. The purpose of the critique was to define how much poster has depicted the topic. Still, two important theories were missing in the poster, including visualisation and storytelling. Additionally, sections for each heading could have been showcased through different colours rather than one single background. Each section critically evaluates what has been done to create a survey. For example, the use of email by education providers could help to improve staff communication. The training needs could be growing if people use email for connecting with others inside the firm while critical analysis for each section was understood inside the presentation. Therefore, the heading of the poster also summed up inside story for the audience to consider the survey results inside an organisation’s email usage.
