Effects of Music on the soul and mind

I think that there exists no conflict between music’s ability to stir the passions and intellect since the human soul aspect comprises of the mind and emotions. Therefore, music equally affects the mind and the soul. Notably, music impacts the cognitive effects on the mind by equipping the brain for higher thinking levels. For example, there is an increased use of music in classrooms within the lower grades. The use of music in learning induces a sense of order to the individual’s auditory system which simplifies the learning task at hand.

The cognitive impacts of music are evident based on the associated developments on the individual’s brain systems and the senses of hearing and seeing thus facilitating an individual’s concentration and memory (Davis). listening to music while studying enhances absorption, retention, and retrieval of material as compared to studying in silence.

The human emotions portray the voice of the soul due to the deep connection existing between the two. Consequently, music has a vast effect on human emotions. Music results in more than just intellect impacting deep reflection within individuals For example, the use of hymns in funerals evokes feelings on the need for mournful emotions that suit such a sorrowful event.  Music also invokes a suitable mood and makes us feel in a certain way. For example, soft jazz at a dinner event introduces a feeling of relaxation and provides an opportunity for people to express their feelings.

Further, the satisfaction of music to the mind and soul is evident during musical therapy. Musical therapy tends to incorporate the cognitive and emotional aspects of the soul in restoring, maintaining, and improving the emotional and physiological well-being of an individual. Additionally, some musical therapies involve the therapist and the patient playing music together. Playing music together does not only portray the patient’s cognitive abilities but also act s an emotional expression.
