A Drastic Change

My final year in college was a period I will never forget in my life. My mum got diagnosed with a joint disease called arthritis. She used to complain about pain, go to hospitals, take these many pain relievers, and we all thought it was just some regular infections. However, it turned out we were all wrong; it was a bigger problem. I have two brothers, and my mother is the sole breadwinner of my family. Our dad passed when I was five. Being the firstborn,  I knew the thing would change to the worst. She had to quit her job as a receptionist and stay home for recovery. My mum was emotionally stressed leave alone the physical pain she was going through. She lost weight. Everything turned to be disastrous after the first month. There was no enough money for bills. It was my final year, but instead, I had to concentrate on taking care of my little brothers, and this started to affect my grades negatively. Everyone, including friends and family, was devasted. It could have been better if we had more savings.

Health problems, for example, my mum’s condition affected everything around her. Our lives were negatively affected, as she could no longer provide as before. Apart from the financial crisis that happened, there was also some social, psychological, mental, and spiritual damage that came hand in hand with the disease. She could no longer attend many social meetings she used to or go to church like before. Staying in bed at home affected her and the environment around her in other million ways than just physically. Arthritis is a musculoskeletal disease that affects one’s support system and motion that you cannot move properly without a wheelchair. The health care that she needed came with a lot of costs, including the medicines. Sometimes we could not afford to go to quality hospitals for treatment as we could not provide. We had to move from our two-bedroom apartment to a cheaper house, and even though it was reasonable, the rent was still a problem. Everything surrounding us changed drastically. We all tried to adjust to this new turnover in our lives and especially my siblings, as they were young. They got affected. The distress was much that it changed all of us. The family members and the community helped, although the support was not enough. no one  had suffered such a disease in the past, and it was such a blow for my family. However, after one year, my mother recovered quite evidently that she started a business that she still does up to date.
