Becoming a nursing student

NURS 6002

WEEK 2 DISCUSSIONS

2ND RESPONSE

Hello Michelle. Thank you for your post. I agree with you that becoming a nursing student and working full time requires juggling of schedules and priorities. There is limited time for taking care of one’s health, with friends, religious services, and volunteer activities. At some point, many students think of giving up their job to attend their classes. I believe that getting a chance to study an MSN program at Walden is an accomplishment by itself. Although the decision comes with several changes including change in routine, learning, and other new situations, we can always strive for a balance between classes, work, and personal life.

According to Mirzaei, Oskouie, & Rafii, 2012, time management is important for nursing students. Success in the MSN program depends on the efficiency and ability to utilize time. Prepare a to-do list and prioritize your activities by getting everything done on time. Set goals and schedule a realistic time to achieve them by keeping a learning track. Liaise with your employer to adjust to the schedule. This schedule is associated with burn out, so it’s recommended to strike school-life balance by exercising frequently, spending time with family, and participating in voluntary services. Always eat healthily, think positively, and remember your goals. Make a study plan, visualize success, and get help from the instructor and fellow students in case of difficulties (Laureate, 2018).
