One of the most challenging part in modern parenting is time. Balancing time, work, and family has remained an alarming issue in contemporary society in the sense that parents spend most of their daily hours away from children. To be a good parent, one needs to take close monitoring of the behaviour of the child as well as his peers. However, this demands a lot of time from the parents. In general, modern parenting is faced by three significant paradigms, one being time for emotional bonding between the parent and the child. Another paradigm is time to monitor the child’s behaviour and instil moral values. The last challenge is how to balance time between the domestic chores, job, and family. These challenges have made parenting become a choice. Initially, parenting used to be a rite of passage where one is born, grew up to adulthood and finally married and becomes a parent. During those days, parents had enough time to sit down with their children and teach them moral standard.
Today, modern parenting is blamed for not imparting moral values to their children. As children grow up, they embrace what they learn at the early teen to late adolescence. If they are not given proper attention at these stages, the child becomes wayward. In contemporary parenting, children spend most of their time away from their parents. Besides children are left behind by either nannies or childcare. Thus, parents have limited opportunities to transfuse the underlying norms, customs and moral values to their children. Also, modern parents cosset their children in such a way that they can’t think over serious issues. Children grew up depending on everything from their parents. Thus, modern parenting is not playing essential roles in up bring their children.
