Environmental Repair and Restoration
The aspect of environmental repair and renewal is broad, and a gradual process that needs proper and the right resources both governmental and communal in place and working together to ensure a doable efficient environmental awareness and repair is done. Basing on different theories of justice such as restorative, redistributive, transformative and mutual aids they are all based on the aspect of conserving and reducing in exploitation of the physical, social and natural elements of the environments.[1] Environmental repair is the act of improving a surrounding from its initial state of contamination and bringing it back to its natural wellness. Ecological restoration is essential for communal existence and survival, especially for the natural settings that have harmful components which deteriorate the presence of the set environment for the future dependency of it with other biogenic organisms.
The environment concerns and set up that paper will address is the Automotive Servicing and Repair Industry that majorly focuses on the aspect of car manufacturing, repairing and servicing. The incites given herein are from a personal observation level based on a first-hand information level obtained from neighbourhoods based car repairing centre. The centre is designed in a way to improve different types of automotive brought in, to fit the needs of the owners. The garage, on the other hand, is not taking necessary measures of incorporating the need for environmental awareness into the said automotive business venture.[2] Over the years of existence of the garage within the neighbourhood in the urban setup, the environmental and climatic situations have adversely been affected hence posing a threat to the overall well-being of the in-built society. On that note different ecological concerns and mitigation measures need to be instilled into place on the garage to revive the conditions of the dying environment to save the vast number of people that are depending on it for survival and existence.
The working and living conditions around the place have been worsening with time. However, the respective environmental awareness clubs within the area have been trying to advise people on how to co-exist with the garage pollution in place and the control measures they should advocate for to stay away from the pollution effects of the garage. The people working in the garage are not aware of how exposed they are to danger since they do not use any protective gears when spray-painting vehicles and when lubricating the metal parts. It seems like they are not concerned about the health of the environment and also themselves thinking that the people living and near the garage are the ones suffering the most due to air as well as sound pollution derived from chemicals and noises from serviced cars that emanates from the place. The broken and ill-fated cars are just abandoned on the roadsides hence blocking roads and pass-ways for people and other vehicles as well. The broken parts of automotive are as well left to rust along the main road routes of the urban centres along which the garage operations are taking place. These abandoned broken parts during night hours they harbour gangsters who end up breaking into people’s homes and do away with assets as well as victimizing and killing people. The working and living condition of the people has not been the same ever since the automotive car site came into play within our urban neighbourhood set up.
As far as the environmental well-being is concerned, the activity in the garage has become extremely hazardous to the health of the natural and social set up of the surrounding areas. The oil spillages into the waterways and river systems thenceforth contaminating the waters, making them unfit for human consumption as well as for agricultural activities. The contamination of the underground water by the spills from the underground storage tanks together with other leaking fluids and waste oils freed into the local drainage systems in the surrounding ecosystem patterns of the area.[3] Nonetheless, the actions taken by the local authorities to try and save the environment besides the destructive efforts done by the garage mechanics were put into place and practised immediately. A day was set aside by the governing wings of the local authority to try and involve every member in cleaning up their respective environments and warn people against engaging themselves in environmental pollution activities. The cleaning practices are being done in the right collaborations with the mechanics and the garage operators starting with their place of work onwards. The initiative has opened the minds of the garage attendants towards initiating measures that are geared towards caring for the environment of which they live. The garage was not supposed to be in place by now if not by corruptive government individuals who take bribes right left and centre, therefore, making it difficult to eradicate the activity happening around the area. The collaborative, communal service has helped in replenishing the place either way and bringing the concerned issue on the map, consequently being eyed by all the respective environmental awareness actors.
Some different practices and activities are valued in the neighbourhood set up, and the most important being the automotive and mechanical works together with painting and graphic designs of public transport vehicles; there is also carpentry and furniture designing and making, urban agriculture, baking and farming along rivers. These are the practices that are considered to be significant in terms of value chains and revenue accumulations let alone profit gains altogether. They are valued since it is based on an urban setup; hence the services resonate with the needs of the people living around. The activities are evaluated since they bring-in direct income across all parties involved, thus help in improving the standard of living of the people. Other things are not valued since people do not see any direct or rather an instant benefit from it.[4] The activities of environmental concern are not being given priorities since they do not concern a particular person on that note they should be addressed communally or collaboratively. They include; issues of waste disposal and collection, river waste removal and determining the purity of river waters as well as cleaning wastes before exposing them into river systems. These aspects should be valued on an individual basis to help create a conducive environment for everyone. The white-collar and blue-collar jobs are the ones being highly targeted within the area thence people have little or no knowledge concerning the environmental aspects that can be run as business ideas hence safeguarding the surroundings against dangers of pollution.
Nevertheless, there are some ventures in the area that go unrecognized despite the efforts that people put in place to ensure they are up and running for the sake of environmental concerns and safety. Those being environmental care work such as proper waste collection and accumulation together with unblocking of sewerage lines and waterways as well as repairing broken water pipes to prevent awaiting contaminations. The environmental justice should spearhead the conversion of the depleted environment through the effort of the community with the help of the local authority on enlightening the people on the need for rehabilitating the environment. The garage needs to be well-set and advised on the environmental measures that the mechanics should undertake while on duty to ensure the river waters are oil-free and the environment is pollution-free. These measures will enable the people living within the set up to experience a fresh and clean air altogether with also a new supply of clean water and good vegetation cover.
