Judging Others

In America, we have a lot of racism and prejudice against all races.  No one will understand a person until he or she sees things from their point of view; everyone has their share of being judged. Some say its human instinct to look at others and judge them. From children to adults, people are judged depending on where they come from, how much money they have, what they wear, what colour their skin is, what they drive or even who they hang out with. When it comes down to this, people are different in several aspects. As a result, people need to accept the differences that exist in others and stop judging them. The situation is hurtful at moments, and sometimes it causes some to hurt themselves or others. Before you assume what kind of person they are, maybe think to stop and get to know the person first.

For me, I have been judged severally based on the people that I hang with. I have very many friends who are of different kinds. They all portray different characters and behaviours from each other. Just because I hang out with them, people give me various labels, in which the majority are negative. Those who accuse me claim that friends are of bad influence. Some of the different groups I choose to hang out with do make a wrong decision, but that doesn’t mean that I am making the same decisions as them. But because people are judgmental, that’s what they think and assume. For example, I play sports, and I was once seen talking to a friend who has a bad reputation here at school. As a result, I was warned not to hang out with friends or individuals of his nature. The incident made me mad and sad at the same time. I was confused, not knowing how I can handle the situation and how I can fit into the case.  The external demands to avoid this friend of mine seem to be so much difficulty since we have been great friends from second grade. However, I agree with what people say about his behaviours and conducts. However, the people who criticize this friend for his behaviour fail to understand what the colleague has undergone in his life. This friend has experienced several ups and downs in his life. He, therefore, needs people who understand his personal life by his side. For that reason, I am the best-suited friend to be by his side. There was no way that I could turn my back on him.

Additionally, as his friend, I didn’t tell my coach much information on my friend’s life and background. This is because I respect people’s secret and I don’t need to go everywhere, exposing my friend’s personal life.  I didn’t let my coach know that he needs someone positive in his life and that I seem to be that person. I also reassured my coach that I am still staying on top of my game. My grades and attendance were right, I was not falling behind. Also, I told him that I am continuing to make the right and best choices for myself. Besides, any moment I am with this friend, I always ensure that I keep him alert of what is likely to happen and try to share sense with him to make the right decisions. I do so much to advise my friend to have him control his behaviour. In case he fails to listen to me, I usually move out to concentrate on my sports. Even my friend is aware of how easy I move out when I realize that I might land in trouble by trying to do anything with him. They know that I am dedicated to my sports, and with that, I cannot be getting in trouble. I am constantly reminded that who I hang out with makes me look like a bad person. I have learned to let things go and not blow up because some don’t and will never get it.

In conclusion, judging somebody requires an individual to have enough information about the person to be judged. That is why I think that people should get to know someone before they start judging. At any moments and individuals attempts to focus on understanding a person’s life, an individual gets to discover a lot about that individual. You get to know their personal experience and background and the story behind them. Judging a person without enough understanding of the individual may lead to an accusation of an innocent person. They might be trying to reach out to someone for help, and because they are judged, they never get that chance. I am that one person who will hang out with someone if he or she needs a friend. I cannot go to turn my back on someone just because who they are, what they have, who they hang out with or even where they come from.
