Junior managing network administrator’s tasks
Introduction
Having been given the task as a junior managing network administrator to perform a series of the functionality of the network and the network Ad Agency has run into trouble with the system. I also have been assigned the responsibility of managing and troubleshooting the network issues that have occurred between the Minneapolis and Austin offices. There has been intermittent network connectivity that has resulted in several router restarts with no resolutions to the problem, and therefore I am here to work on the cause of the network issue and identify the cause.
Troubleshooting
When I will be diagnosing network connection issues. I will try in my way recreate the problem (s) on all the affected devices, by doing this, it will help me to isolate the issue with the network connection and form the solution. The next thing I will do is to check the configuration of all the affected devices. Much network issues stem from the misconfiguration. I would then confirm to see that all network cables are securely and properly connected and at the same time they are not destroyed. I would then verify all the power connections and the power cycle of the network devices to re-establish the link to the internet in the device (s). When the intermittent network connectivity continues to be an issue, I will check to see if there was a security issue within the system. I will finalize by checking to see if there is network is congestion.
Identifying
Considering the network is suffering from intermittent connectivity, in my assumption, it would most likely be due to congestion on the net which is a lot like a backed-up freeway. It takes a long time to travel a relatively short distance when there are too many cars on a highway experiencing heavy traffic congestion. The same case with intermittent network connectivity, it’s likely there are too many requests being sent or received thus experiencing congestion.
Solution
Working on identifying this as the cause, I would have to monitor the network using software or service as the options. This will besides give a boost to the security of the network knowing which devices are connecting and when. Applying these tools, we can monitor all the devices connected to the system and to observe any unusual activity that might be experienced. Also, the network can become congested from things like the Distributed Denial of Service (DDOS) attacks which uses multiple computers or servers to attack a target domain resulting in intermittent connections or even knock the domain when offline, developing a denial of service for anybody trying to fix appropriately.
