Global Warming.
Global warming is no longer a prediction, and it is happening. A misconception has it that global warming is a distant threat, and its consequences will affect future decades. In contrast, global warming has caused significant impacts in various parts of the world. For instance, over the years, there has been an increase in temperature in the air and ocean. Sea ice has broken down, drought cases, forest fires, and the formation of glaciers are some examples. Greenhouse gases, according to scientists, is the major contribution of global warming. (Jacobson, p.150)The continuous increase in the rate of global warming will ruthlessly affect the ecological systems and its balance. Due to the danger which global warming poses to the world, solutions must be given to prevent any further damage. The research paper will provide a clear meaning of global warming, its adverse effects, and also offer solutions to global warming.
Global warming is generally defined as the gradual increase in the earth’s temperature, mainly attributed to the greenhouse effects. The greenhouse releases very high levels of carbon dioxide and other pollutants, causing it to be a significant contribution. Carbon dioxide is the primary greenhouse that is emitted and is a substantial contribution to the greenhouse effect. Excessive burning of fossil fuels such as coal releases lots of carbon dioxide. Deforestation is another significant contribution to the release of carbon dioxide. (Abate, p. 591) Trees breathe in Carbon dioxide and release Oxygen; thus, when numerous trees are cut down, a few trees take in carbon dioxide. The rest of the gas is then absorbed into the atmosphere, causing an increase in global warming. Besides, methane and chlorofluorocarbons cause global warming. There are lots of gases that are released to the environment that contribute to the increase in global warming.
Predicting the effects of global warming gets difficult for researchers. They hardly get to tell whether it is the natural processes that cause excessive rainfall or even prolonged droughts. Global warming causes extreme floods and draughts at the same time. When there is a high evaporation rate, there will be excessive rainfall and areas, where there is no evaporation prolonged draught will be experienced. Prolonged droughts lead to crop failure, which turns to a shortage of food. Areas around mountains will experience water shortages because of the high rate at which glaciers are sinking. ( Ralston, p.822) Mosquito-borne diseases will also spread mainly in areas experiencing high temperatures. Survival of living beings will be difficult due to the spread of diseases such as malaria. Prolonged drought will lead to increased levels of hunger among humans and animals.
Despite the adverse effects of global warming, there are solutions to global warming. Many nations are upping their game to chase away global warming to protect future generations. Communication is the most significant effort every individual can make to change global warming. Educating your peers about the adverse effects and solutions to global warming will help reduce global warming. Investing in energy-efficient appliances that have a low cost will reduce emissions will help reduce carbon dioxide out of the air. Wastage of water also increases global warming due to the high energy used in pumping water. Buying better bulbs will reduce heat emissions. Driving fuel-efficient vehicles will reduce the harmful radiation of gases. Lastly, eating less of meat also mitigates global warming in that it will cut down energy consumption making, livestock resource-intensive to produce.
In conclusion, global warming has its adverse effects on the world at large. If not well taken care of, it may lead to massive destruction of living organisms, making it difficult for plants to survive and lead to ecological imbalance. We should all take the initiative of taking care of the environment as it will help reduce global warming. It means that future generations will be considered. Planting trees as a start will help reduce global warming significantly. Every journey starts with a single step; thus, everyone should take the initiative to reduce global warming.
