Barney Frank as a gay politician serving in the Budget committee in the 1990s was much concerned in alleviating the HIV/AIDS crisis by seeking the government funding to care for the sick as well s funding the medical research. His accounts highlight how he used his position to advance equality on the military ban on gay service members. Frank used his experiences of discrimination as a gay person to advance the cause of LGBT equality. Notably, he agitated for people’s freedom to quality medication through suggesting various ways of dealing with health care crisis. As a leader was opposed to the use of attribution of homosexuality as a political weapon, indicating that most people were afraid to reveal their sexual orientation. Another critical issue that he addressed was racial injustice and highlighted the way to attain equality was through changing the political platform. His struggle for racial prejudice saw him participate in the Freedom Summer, where he joined college students for a black voter registration drive. Frank strongly believed that a stable government could liberate people especially in overcoming racial, social, and economic inequality. To achieve this objective, he called for significant cuts on military spending as well as decreases the population spending. He pressured the federal’s government affirmative action on offering affordable care act, medical leave act, and violence against women. One of Frank’s propositions towards attaining economic equity was government’s intervention. In some instances, he advocated for equal dependence on government for example, through enrolment to Medicare. Frank co-sponsored the US amendment on equal rights on gender differences that saw women and people from minority communities hold positions they would previously not take. Additionally, Frank played a crucial role in designing the immigration act that revised the discriminative laws that denied people entry into the country, for example, based on sexual preference or being a member of a minority group.
