Topic 3 DQ 1
Evidence-based practice is an explicit approach to care delivery in healthcare as it integrates the best research from well-researched articles and clinicians’ expertise to offer the best quality of care. When evidence-based practice is offered in an organizational culture that is well collaborated and which is full of care, the quality of care is improved, and there is a better patient outcome. For effective EBP implementation, APN nurses and direct care nurses require effective communication that will promote their collaboration during the implementation. Communication is one of the most significant factors that increase knowledge of both the APNs and direct care nurses on the expected changes after EBP implementation. Communication will also reduce the implementation barrier especially direct care nurses resistance to the changes after complete installation. The use of daily goal reminder sheets improves communication between APNs and direct care nurses which is among the measures that can be used for collaboration.
The other measure that can be used by APNs to enhance collaboration with direct care nurses is training the direct care nurses on the use of research articles so that they can support the implementation. Lack of knowledge by direct care nurses on the use of EBP has been a major concern and a barrier to implementation as that increase resistance by users. APNs can take the initiative to train nurses on the best articles and research material to incorporate when giving their clinical care. Besides, APNs have a broad understanding of evidence-based practice and their involvement in direct patient care increase their collaboration with direct care nurses. APNs can also assist direct care nurses in solving clinical problems using EBP which will increase their collaboration and make direct care nurses more knowledgeable about evidence-based practice.
