Employee recognition is one of the biggest motivators for employees in the workplace. A higher percentage of employees is more likely to be productive if they are recognized and their efforts rewarded. More recognition of efforts on the employees’ side means more productivity hence happier customers and satisfied employees. Regularly rewarding employees for work done does a lot to boost their morale and promote loyalty to the organization.

One of the most difficult tasks for HR professionals is finding lucrative ways to reward and retain their employees. A laid out recognition and rewards program is becoming more crucial in the workplace especially with the current influx of millennials. Millennials are not interested in just compensation but with other factors such as meaningful workplace culture, volunteer opportunities, frequent recognition, and praise and rewards for their work. They believe that these factors are essential to their satisfaction and therefore organizations are going through major shifts to keep up. Such programs adopted include rewarding the right things for instance by celebrating small and big wins. Employees are also being rewarded for being effective team players to boost other employees in doing the same. Another way to motivate employees is by rewarding their intrinsic and extrinsic factors. Intrinsic factors such as praise for work done motivate staff to perform while extrinsic factors such as promotions and higher pay prevent dissatisfaction.

All in all, employee recognition drives towards more revenue for the organization. Organizations must understand the importance of rewarding their employees and integrate it into their culture. I think that introducing programs such as yoga and mental health could help them feel appreciated and cared for by the organizations they work in. Rewarding employees has countless advantages and creating trust and stronger relationships at work is also one. When employees are satisfied at work, most of them are happy at home and this reduces issues such as absenteeism.
