The relevance of school uniforms and policies

School uniforms involve a particular school dictating a specific dressing code for its students at different study levels. It is worth noting that before the introduction of formal education, there were no codes of dressing for students. Other schools do not consider having specific dressing codes because of the lack of belief in the uniform’s relevance. The school uniform codes and policies is a topic that has lots of criticism regarding different schools of thoughts (Wilken and Van Aardt, 2012). Some people say that uniforms play a significant function in shaping students’ behaviour and reducing the socio-economic gap in society. Other people think that the only purpose it plays is dressing up the behaviour and disparity in the social and economic sectors (Dean, 2015). The research aims at determining the role of school uniforms and codes regarding the stated aspects.

Research question

Do dressing codes and school uniforms reduce the socio-economic indifferences and the bad behaviour of students in society?

Thesis statement

School uniforms and dress codes help dictate students’ behaviour in significant ways and do not uproot the social and economic differences in society.

Detailed outline

Dressing codes on students behaviour (Support evidence guide)

The school uniform policies influence students’ behaviour because students fear to make some mistakes while having to wear a school uniform. For example, a student who misbehaves in a given place holds the identity of a specific school. Tracing such a student and reporting him to the school administration is easy compared to the student who has no school uniform. Therefore, the inducement of fear while in the school uniform is an aspect brought up by Baumann (Baumann and Krskova, 2016).

Different schools have different rules, and by wearing a uniform of such a school, it means that one has to abide by those rules. Therefore, the shaping of the students’ behaviour has a solid linkage to school uniforms. According to Brookshire, the rules help in shaping the climate of the school (Brookshire, 2016). Taking the assumption of a school with no school rules, the whole school may be in a mess.

It is also worth noting that school uniforms reduce violence and theft risks (Dullin, 2016). For example, the school officials identify the intruders in any govern school and take a great watch at them while in the school compound. Therefore, school uniforms enhance discipline levels.

Dressing codes on socio-economic disparity (Support evidence guide)

The social and economic levels cannot undergo an obstruction by having the same school uniform (Jones et al., 2020). The only role played by the uniform is dressing the indifferences and not uprooting them in society. Some students notice the difference regarding the aspect because of how some of them walk around the school. An example is where posh vehicles drop some students while others walk to school. The indifference does not get away from the students’ minds.

The only way to address the issue is by teaching the students to appreciate diversity and differences. The students need to know that there are rich people and the unfortunate ones in society (Putnam et al. 2016). Therefore, social justice and equality are critical grounds for teaching students. The appreciation of different people helps in the reduction of conflicts that may arise on the wealth basis.

Reflection

The most challenging process in developing the research outline was researching the different academic sources relevant to the research. The sources used do not have outdated information based on the years of publications. It required intensive research on the available publications, articles and books.

The thesis statement of the research is compelling. It outlines the objective of the study under two dimensions. The dimensions include the socio-economic differences and the students’ behaviour regarding the uniform policies. It addresses the whole extent of the research coverage.

The research outline is key in organizing the research. The outline has various subheadings regarding the two dimensions developed in the research question. Every thought and point has a citation of a relevant reference book or article. Therefore, the flow of ideas in the research is a guarantee.

The helpful feedback in the research development includes any perceptions by different people regarding the research topic. The relevance of the topic and its application are also useful considerations.
